I just snorted.
"No, of course not. You must have heard about the first shifter/vampire imprint too." My nerves were starting to wind down a little, and I managed to step a little closer to him.
A slight grin pulled at the corner of his mouth as he replied,
"Yes. Carlisle told me about it. We weren't sure how the pack would react. They're not exactly our biggest fans."
I nodded. "I get it. Sam says that they can't try anything, even if they wanted to. But, the way he said it makes me think that they don't want to. Sam even urged me to talk to you as soon as I could."
"That's good to hear. What should we do?" He asked, allowing the uncertainty he felt to shine clearly in his eyes.
I simply shrugged my shoulders.
"I really don't know. I have a lot of feelings and emotions towards you that I don't exactly know how to deal with right now. Besides, I think our biggest issue at the moment is what we're going to say to Bella."
His eyes closes with a pained expression, and I knew this was something he definitely wasn't looking forward to dealing with.
I took another step closer, not really thinking, now we were maybe only a foot apart.
His eyes opened, and locked with mime for a second time.
"Well, at least I'll be able to accomplish what I told Jasper earlier." He stated, calmly.
I raised an eyebrow.
"And, what was that?"
He grinned, and stepped forward, closing by he small gap between us, leaving us barely inches apart.
"Just before you showed up in Port Angeles, I had decided to try being more nice to you." He answered.
Fighting back a grin, I nodded.
"Yeah, that should be a breeze now."
He smiled, searching my eyes. I wasn't really sure what he was looking for, but he must have found it, or at least thought he did, cause the next thing I knew, his hand was lightly touching the side of my face.
What are you doing?
I thought, unable to speak.
He suddenly dropped his hand and stepped back.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. This imprint thing is a stronger force than I realized." He explained, sounding almost embarrassed.
"I'm not scared." I whispered.
He studied my face for a moment.
"We need to speak with Bella."
"Yeah...this is gonna be tough.." I answered, running a hand through my hair.
Suddenly, Edward's hand was on my shoulder, his eyes with an empathetic light in them.
"We will get through it."
I wasn't entirely sure of what I was doing, even as I was doing it. But, all of a sudden, I just reached out and wrapped my arms around the vampire in front of me.
Everything in my life, my world, had in one single day, been turned completely upside down. I was teetering on the edge of hysteria and fulblown panic attack already, and I guess, thanks to the imprint, a part of me knew the best person to seek comfort from in all this craziness, even before my brain did.
I froze, my arms around hm I a hug, my face birdied in the crook of his neck.
Edward slowly wrapped his arms around me, returning the hug and holding me to him.
Just as quickly as it had happened, it was over, as I regained my composure slightly and pulled back.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. Everything is just so messed up right now." I tried to explain.
He smiled and nodded.
"It's okay. I completely understand."
I ran a hand over my face, and almost laughed.
This is just too crazy. We had just been the world's worst enemies, at each others throats only hours ago.
"It is strange." Edward agreed, hearing my thoughts.
I looked up, and studied the vampire for a moment. I had so many emotions that I just didn't understand. Did I care for him? Did I want to be his friend? His brother? Was I attracted to him?
Edward's body shifted just slightly, and I almost didn't catch it.
"We need to figure out how to tell Bella." I said, trying to bring us back to the task at hand.
Edward grinned. "You need to go home and get some sleep. We can worry about that in the morning."
Suddenly feeling the wave of exhaustion that my previous anger had kept at bay.
"Okay...well, where do you want to meet up?" I asked, not entirely sure I would like his answer.
"We can meet here if you'd like." He answered, he must have heard my worries.
Relieved that he wasn't going to force me into a house full of blood suckers, I agreed with a nod, then turned and headed for my house.
"Goodnight, Jacob." Edward said quietly.
"See you tomorrow." I called over my shoulder, as I glanced behind me.
But, he was already gone.
