Hey guys! Third chapter! I hope you've been liking this story. I might actually stick with this one. It's going a bit slow, but it gets better, I promise! Votes keep the story alive, you know!
WARNING: THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS VIOLENCE
**ANGEL**
I really wasn't looking forward to going home. I had fallen asleep in Kyler's cabin, and it was already dark by the time I woke up. I stumbled my way through the forest until I emerged around the school. I quickly walked home, hoping that father had gone to bed early and wouldn't give me hell for coming home late.
"Well there you fucking are," a gruff voice slurred as soon as I opened the front door. I stepped into the apartment, keeping my eyes on the floor. "You know, the school called. Said not only that you strangled a student, but you also ditched. How dare you embarrass me like that, you piece of shit?"
"I'm sorry," I mumbled, wringing my hands and scraping my nails against my palms nervously.
"Like hell you are," he growled, standing up from his armchair and approaching me, his hands reaching out and closing around my throat. I held my breath, not even resisting, knowing he'd kill me if I tried to get out of his grip. "You like this? You think that kid liked when you did this?"
"N-no," I gasped, feeling lightheaded. He pushed me away, stumbling into the kitchen. I regained my balance, my fingers feathering over my throat, checking for bruises. He poured a full water glass of vodka before heading back to his chair.
"I better not see you the rest of the night. You're grounded."
I nodded and hurried to my room. I barricaded the door with the bookshelf and bit my lip to keep from crying, reopening the split. I took a deep breath, then searched for the small pre-paid phone my mother gave me before she left. It was the only form of communication I had with her.
"Hey, sweetie," she said after a few rings. I could hear the sleep in her voice, meaning I had just woken her up. I was about to apologize for disturbing her, but my lungs gave out, and I began to sob, clamping my hand over my mouth. "Baby, what happened?"
"He isn't getting any better," I managed, lowering onto the floor and curling into a ball, the phone pressed against my ear. "Mommy, I miss you."
"I miss you, too, honey," she said quietly. It didn't matter that I was almost eighteen; I always acted like a child when talking to my mother. I practically whimpered into the phone, gripping it like a life line. "Get some rest, alright? I'll sing to you, maybe?"
"OK," I mumbled after sniffling. As she stared to sing lullabies from when I was little, I kicked off my shoes and crawled into bed. I noticed that I was more comfortable than usual and realized that I was still in Kyler's jacket.
**KYLER**
I wondered why Angel had so many bruises. I doubted that everything was due to him being clumsy; there was definitely sometime hurting him, and that thought alone pissed me off.
I pulled myself off my bed, deciding to go for a walk in the crisp morning air. The fog was pretty thick, making it nearly impossible to see further than two yards ahead of me. I carefully picked my way through the forest and took the sidewalk to the corner store. A little bell tinkled when I pushed the glass door open. I went to the drinks fridges, selected a bottled water, grabbed a bag of gummy bears, and walked to the checkout. The elderly woman there scanned the items, i paid, and she handed them to me without a bag.
