|12| Binary sunsets

Start from the beginning

A wave of tiredness hits me and I struggle to contain my yawn. I stand up, the room swaying around me. Rex hands me a glass of water and I drink all of it. "Come on. I'll help you back to your room." He grabs one of my arms and steadies me.

"Me too." Fives grabs my other arm.

"I think it's best if I stay here and make sure everyone else is okay." Trilla shouts from across the room. I nod my head but eye the full glass of alcohol she has in her hand.

The boys practically drag me back to my room but around half way back a wave of nausea hits me. It's so bad that I have to lean against the cool metal wall for a couple of seconds, eyes tightly closed, the florescent lights making me feel more sick.

"What is going on here?" The voice of literally the last person in the galaxy I want to see right now, speaks to us, his voice echoing around the corridor. Now I really am going to be sick and that's exactly what happens. The anxiety within me, at being caught so clearly drunk by a superior, mixes with the alcohol and I lean forward, vomiting all over the pair of black boots that have stopped right in front of me.

I look up, my cheeks burning red, to see the oh so familiar cloaked figure of my nightmares. A part of me debates not apologising to him but then I remember that I am supposed to be getting closer to him and this... mishap will have set me back quite a bit. "I'm so sorry my lord."

"What is going on here?" he repeats, his tone much harsher. He is looking directly as Fives and Rex. Much to my surprise Rex looks as though he is about to start laughing. Fives does not.

"She err fell sick, sir." Fives' lie is so unconvincing. "We were taking her to the med bay."

"Is that right? You do know you're heading in the wrong direction?" Vader sighs heavily, crossing his arms over his chest. "You two go and shut down the party. I'll deal with her." I'm pretty sure my gulp is audible. The two clones turn to head back the way we came. I could hear their faint conversation,

"The medical bay? What were you thinking?" Rex smacks Fives on the back of his head and I hear Fives laugh.

"It was worth a shot." I stare helplessly after them as they abandon me, wishing that I had stayed behind with Trilla.

"Come on." Vader says and I push off the wall to follow him but the room starts spinning once more. He huffs and grabs hold of my arm, pulling me down the corridor and towards his office. He pushes open the door and gestures towards one of the chairs in front of the desk. I take the hint and sit down. He sits in front of me, on top of the desk. "Are you going to throw up again?" I shake my head but the movement makes my stomach churn.

"Yes." I say right before a trash can is pushed into my arms. I vomit up the remaining substances in my stomach and sit back in the chair, my eyes closed.

"A thank you would be nice." I hear him mumble. I refrain from rolling my eyes at him.

"Well a congratulations would have been nice yesterday but we can't all get what we want, can we?" I don't know what made me say that. "Ignore that. I'm really drunk." Shit why can't I stop speaking? "I mean, I'm really sick." I emphasise the last word and even fake a couple of coughs. Nailed it.

"Obviously." I can practically hear the eye roll. "But I did congratulate you. Did you not get my note? I told Rex to put it in your room."

"That's exactly my point! Some people's loyalty has to be earned not bought. You can't just get your minions to do all your dirty work and expect those around you to respect you for that. You have to do things, see things for yourself. Earn their trust and they might show you true loyalty. Not the fake stuff that just shows how much they fear you." I really need to stop speaking. I don't even know where all this is coming from. Why am I giving this person that I hate advice? Perhaps my sub-conscience is trying to make him a better leader for Trilla and the clones' sake before his demise. I don't know. I'm way too drunk for this conversation.
