{A/N: Here, I made a title card for this chapter. Not any of the other ones. I had a simple idea and I had to make it, so I made it. I'll make title cards for all the chapters eventually, but it's midnight and I'm tired so not right now lol.
I used procreate btw}

      I continued walking up the path, humming to the tune of my favourite song, with one hand in my pocket, the other holding my flashlight. Similarly to the village, the path was clear of trees, so it was easier to see, but it was still dark. And plus, I didn't want to end up in any traps. I remembered how they looked; circles of dark purple-black spiked vines, jutting out from the ground. When we were walking to the village, Vincent had dodged them, to me just looking like he was walking around nothing. I asked him about it, he explained the traps, and told me to avoid them unless I wanted to piss off Snatcher. So now, I look out for them—not just so I won't accidentally get caught in them, but also so I know where traps are when I feel like being annoying; that's my entire job at this point, to be as annoying as possible to assholes who deserve it. You know, like Snatcher.

      I soon came across a sharp left turn in the path, going uphill, and in the opposite direction of a broken stone bridge that crosses into a snowy terrain. "Huh. I guess that's the ice I'm supposed to be clearing," I thought, then continued walking up the dirt path.

      It didn't take much longer for me to find something— a giant glowshroom, towering above me, seeming to be taller than the trees, was stationed in a small pond, about a foot deep, with a large vine going across it and up to the entrance of the hollowed-out bottom of the glowshroom tree. Speaking of the entrance, the holes that made it up resembled that of a jack-o-lantern face, kind of like Snatcher's. The light from surrounding glowshrooms, both attached to the bark and not, along with that from the stars and from the inside of the glowshroom tree was enough for me to be able to see well enough without my flashlight, so I turned it off, put it in my backpack's pocket, and carefully walked up the vine, trying to keep my balance and not trip and fall into the water below. That would suck.

      As I got closer to the hollowed wood, I was able to hear two voices; one was recognized, it was Snatcher's, again filled with annoyance, and the other was new. A loud, high-pitched, feminine voice, speaking (almost shouting, actually) with happiness and excitement.

      "Ughhh, can't you just leave me alone, kid?! I have things to do!"
      "Nope!"
      "Seriously, just go away! That damn ice witch is already annoying enough, I don't need you adding to my problems!"
      "Oh, come on, Snatcher, you're my BFF! You're contractually obligated to be, you know!"
      "WHAT— AUGHH, I FIGURED YOU WOULD'VE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT BY NOW!"
      "Why would I forget? Friends don't forget each other, especially not BFFs!"
      "We. Are NOT. FRIENDS!!"
      "Yes we areee! Stop denying it, Snatcher!"
      "GOD, JUST SHUT UP ALREADY!!!"

      Snatcher, having a friend? A contractually obligated one, no less? That doesn't sound real. But whatever, that doesn't matter to me; what matters is getting my soul back and going home.

      The argument between the two characters continued as I walked up the vine and into the glowshroom tree, and there, I saw Snatcher, sitting in a red-orange chair with his face hidden behind a comically large book, which he seemed to be pressing against his head, and a young girl, about 5'3" with rich brown hair tied in a low ponytail, fair skin, a purple dress and top hat, tan pants, and combat boots, standing on her toes with her hands on the arm of Snatcher's chair, beaming at him. For a moment, I just stood there with a confused expression. The two were busy arguing and not looking at me, so they didn't notice me standing in the entrance until I knocked on the wood.
