I frantically looked over the room. Rays of sunlight shone through the gaps in the window shutters. The walls looked like a light blue. To my left was a small table and a white couch. To my right was a clock, that told me it was seven thirty, and another lumpy, unmade bed. In front of me was a blank wall with two doors. One led to the bathroom. It was shut and light was shining under it. I could hear water running. The other was wide open to another room. I could just make out Maggie in the reflection of a mirror. She was putting her makeup on.
I hopped out of the bed and found my way into the room. She jumped a bit when she saw me, then attacked me with a hug.
“I'M so EXCITED.” she gushed, makeup forgotten. One of her eyes was lightly surrounded with brown eyeliner, and the other was half done. I fought back a laugh.
“What do we-” I began, curious about what was in store for us in the first day.
“Maggie finish your makeup so we can get breakfast!” Schyler was on the other side of the room, clipping her hair back. “Oh hey Nat. Sleep good?”
Surprisingly, I felt incredibly well rested. “Yeah.” I responded, “You?”
“Definitely. Hey if you want you can use our shower since Colton's hogging yours. We're getting ready to go down and grab breakfast.”
“Oh okay! Thanks.” just then I heard the water from our room switch off.
“I'll see you downstairs, ok?” Maggie had quickly finished her makeup and was now grabbing her purse and turning to me. “I'm sure Colton will wait for you.”
“He has to do his hair still.” Sky said, rolling her eyes, “You'll have plenty of time to take a shower and still be done before him.” I laughed at the thought.
“I can hear you guys!” Colton's muffled voice came through the wall.
“I love you Colt!” Schyler yelled back, grinning.
“Mhm.” I could hear him laughing.
“Hey did either of you move me to a bed last night?” I asked, suddenly remembering why I'd come here in the first place. They both shook their heads.
“Are you sure you didn't just fall asleep there?” Maggie suggested, “I don't remember anything from last night.” she added, laughing.
“Hmm. Maybe.” I responded. But I knew I'd fallen asleep on the couch.
The showers here produced warm water, much to my relief. At least the water always seemed to work out for me. After drying my hair with the obnoxious pink blowdryer Maggie had brought along, I dressed in a loose rose-colored tee and black leggings. My heart-charm necklace was still on from yesterday. My hair actually was pretty settled today, but I clipped back a strand with a hot-pink clip anyway. I again considered borrowing Maggie's makeup, and again hated myself for thinking it. Colton was my friend. That was all. I looked over myself one final time before exiting the bathroom. I ran right into Colton, and we both bounced back.
“Oh my gosh I'm so-” I began.
“My fault.” he chuckled, “I should have been paying attention.”
He was dressed in black skinny jeans, not unlike the ones I'd worn yesterday, and a white shirt. His hair was re-done and poofy again. I caught myself staring at his hair and looked away quickly, embarrassed.
“You ready to head down?” he asked me.
“Yeah, right after I find my shoes.” I'd searched for them earlier, and came up with nothing. I was starting to think Maggie was right about me imagining last night.
