Chapter Three: The Delay

Start from the beginning

“Cuz Colton asked you to.” she said his name in a teasing way, and I fought the urge to elbow her.  She hadn't talked much about him since we'd gotten home, mostly due to how terribly I took the news of his crushing on me.  Either way, my heart skipped a beat hearing his name said out loud.

“If I recall, you all asked me to.” I said, rolling my eyes.  Maggie mumbled something I didn't hear, looking thoughtful.  I turned my attention to the airsick man, who was now asking if he could have my puke bag.  I handed it to him without hesitation, though immediately regretted it as the sour smell met my nose, causing me to gag.  I bit hard on my lip, and turned away.

“You still aren't over Jack, are you?” she finally said.  She was eyeing my heart-charm.  The pang of sadness again.  I looked at my feet, having no where else left to turn.  I could feel her shaking her head.

“We're beginning our decent into Nashville.  Please remain in your seats so we can land the plane safely.”  The man moaned.

Maggie didn't know the half of my once upon a time relationship with Jack.  And I intended to keep it that way.

“I don't know about you but I sure am glad to be off that plane.” Maggie looked as if she wouldn't hesitate to get down on her knees and kiss the germ-infested linoleum floor of the Nashville airport if someone were to request it.  Come to think of it, I probably would to.  If it weren't so dirty.

“Good luck getting me on the next flight.” I moaned, stretching my arms out.  We continued walking in silence for a while.

“I think we're headed for A-11.” I squinted at my ticket, trying to make out the little numbers.

Maggie stopped abruptly, and I nearly ran into her.  “Crud.” I followed her gaze to the sign just above the terminal we were standing in front of.

It read: TERMINAL A-11

Underneath was a flashing sign with the status.

DELAYED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

“Great.” I said sarcastically.

There were so many people surrounding us that I could hardly stand it.  It seemed as if most all the flights were delayed.  I glanced out the window at the raging storm, and rolled my eyes at my luck.  We weren't going anywhere for a while.

“What now?” Maggie asked, sounding resigned.

“Well we can't leave the airport,” I said, “So I guess we...  Wait?”

“I have to pee.  And I want a coffee.” I gave her a look, and she grinned. “I'll meet you back here in like 15 minutes.” I rolled my eyes, but nodded.  She took off to the left.

Well this was fantastic.  I realized (too late, of course) that we should have gotten one of our parents to come along with us.  I sighed and started walking for the chairs, taking my phone out to call my dad.

No signal.

I nearly screamed in annoyance.  I had absolutely no idea what we should do.  We didn't have to be in Hollywood for two more days, but what if the storm never let up?  There had to be more people heading for Idol.  I looked around, trying to decide what to do.

“You look a little lost.” the familiar voice startled me, and I turned to find it's owner.  “Jumpy as always.” His brown eyes twinkled as he let out a little laugh.

It was Colton.

I'm gonna be honest, I was totally silent for a good moment.  Then I realized I sort of had to say something. “I... Uh... You live in Nashville?”
