Chapter 16 | Chihiro... No...

Start from the beginning

"Either they're already off trying to verify what Monokuma said...or they've fallen victim to the "something" that Monokuma mentioned." Byakuya said, actually facing the two of them.

"The...something?" Makoto asked nervously.

"It can't be... Has it happened again? Murder...?" Sakura questioned, her voice wavered a bit.

I tensed again. It couldn't be. Monokuma was probably just trying to scare us and make us worry solely for the sake of his own entertainment! He's twisted like that! That has to be it! But I guess I knew that the possibility of that outcome was low.

"That does seem like the most logical thing that happened." Naomi spoke up from beside me.

Hearing her say that made my blood run cold once again.

"S-So if something really did happen... Does that mean someone did it cuz of what happened yesterday?" Yasuhiro questioned.

"It can't be! That stuff was just a bunch of old memories!" Hina exclaimed.

I noticed Saki flinch at Hina's words and then I remembered the conversation I had with her last night about her secret. I made eye contact with her and mouthed 'are you okay?' she seemed to understand and nodded hesitantly at me which caused a small frown to grace my lips.

"Just" old memories? Don't be so sure about that. Clearly someone felt it was more important than that." Byakuya said, his tone of voice harsh.

"Huh...?" Makoto questioned hesitantly.

Byakuya looked at him, a harsh expression on his face.

"To judge someone else's values base on your own outlook... Do you realize how dangerous that is?" Byakuya questions.

"Wh-? Why didn't you say something yesterday!?" Hina exclaimed in anger.

"Did you already forget? This isn't a co-op game. It's every man for himself. What good does it do me to go out of my way to help you?" Byakuya sneered.

"Y'know, you could try to be a good person for once and not a selfish prick." I say, glaring at him.

"There's something wrong with him, for serious. Did he get brainwashed or something?" Yasuhiro questioned aloud.

"That's not what's important. What matters right now is that we find out what happened..." Sakura said.

"She's right. Let's all split up and begin looking. Hmhm... The game is afoot." Byakuya said.

And with that, he walked out. Slowly, the others began to exit the dining hall until it was just me, Naomi, and Saki. Saki stood nervously and began to play with her fingers. Naomi began walking towards the doors.

"I'm going to go look. Good luck." She said before pushing the open doors and leaving.

I was relieved that Naomi left, I needed to make sure Saki was 100% okay and it would be easier to talk to her alone. I walked up to Saki and put my hands on her shoulders.

"Saki, are you sure you're alright. You can tell me the truth." I assured her.

She nodded and took a deep breath.

"I'm just...on edge. I wasn't able to sleep even after telling you about my secret. I was just worried that..." She trailed off.

"...That someone heard us?" I ask, trying to finish her sentence.

"Yes! Exactly. And with what Monokuma said this morning..." She trailed off again, her face getting even paler.

"Hey, it's okay. I highly doubt anyone overheard us talking last night and as for Monokuma, he was probably saying that to scare us. Get under our skin, y'know? He does that sort of thing all the time." I said. Although the last part was more to convince myself than her.
