The Darkness

New Jersey 1988- Theodore was always happy, from the sunniest of days to the coldest of nights. He was the smartest in his class and knew the answer to questions when all the other students didn't. He was the teachers' golden student and they couldn't even deny it. He loved the outdoors and would always sit underneath a tree with his favorite book, Attack of The Robot Dinosaur. Theodore imagined himself being the hero of the story. Even though he knew he could never do half of the things that the hero could do. He got on well with his sisters too, Roxy and Evie. He went on trips and adventures with his family very often. His life was perfect to him, and he didn't care what anybody else thought about him.

One rainy night at about 7:20 am, Evie saw that a new pizzeria had opened a few blocks down from their street. It was called Freddy's Family Diner. Theodore loved pizza (who doesn't?). She pulled a piece of paper she had ripped off of a poster previously today and showed the family. Three creepy animatronics were on the front with the words written under it 'Celebrate'.

'Wow, I'd love to go there' Roxy said putting down the homework she was finishing.

Terry (who was Theodore's dad) thought about how it was Theodore's birthday in a few days and was considering taking the family to go see the animatronics, eat some pizza and play some arcade games. After Terry had told everyone that he would take them if they were good, everyone went to bed extra early just so they could get a little bit closer to their trip.

Before school, while everyone was having breakfast, Theodore looked at the calendar hung on the wall and noticed there were only two days until his birthday. He couldn't wait. On the way to school, all the family could see were 'Freddy Fazbears Family Diner' posters scattered all over the streets. It took a while to get to school. After what felt like forever, Theodore finally arrived at school. He was exhausted from walking for so long but was still ready to start a new day. As usual, Theodore got every single question right and finished before everyone else. After school, it was the summer holidays. He walked home alone like normal because he was smart but not popular. Even though he would enjoy having some company once and a while, he sort of enjoyed the peace.

When Theodore got home, he was suddenly greeted by his sister Roxy. '2 Days left' She yelled over the sound of the hoover going back and forth over the carpet.

'I think I know when my birthday is' Theodore said quietly so she couldn't hear even though the expression on her face showed that she did.

Theodore could smell his dinner being prepared. He made his way into the kitchen and was immediately hit with the smell of pork chops.

'dinner's almost ready dear' mom said while holding a big tray with freshly made new potatoes

He sat down at the table, brought out a book, and began to read. Whenever he had a book, nothing could stop him from reading. He can always concentrate even at the loudest of times. Terry finished vacuuming the house and came to sit at the table. At last, dinner was finally served. After dinner was finished, Theodore rushed to his bed, as did Roxy and Evie. Same drill as yesterday. Tomorrow was Theodore's birthday. Finally, it was about time. It felt like forever. Mom called the kids downstairs for breakfast, and so they ran downstairs because they knew mom only ever called them down for breakfast on special occasions.

'It must be because of my birthday tomorrow?' Theodore thought.

'Today on the menu is bacon and eggs.' Mom shouted over the kettle. 'Tea anyone?'

'Me please' Theodore said getting pretty annoyed with the kettle screeching in the background. All Theodore could think of was his birthday, he couldn't even sleep he was so excited.

'It's time' Mom shouted from the upstairs hallway. 'It's Saturday Theodore, wake up.' Theodore rushed downstairs almost tripping over and went into the living room. The whole table was filled with presents and cards. The time was 7:30 pm, Theodore couldn't wait to go to Freddy's Pizzeria. He could already taste the pizza.
