The Ambulance Shook and wobbled back and forth as it came to a sudden stop. The blinding light of the mid- day sky shone in. The light was so bright that it could blind someone in one second. A large red brick building stood in front of me. Eric pulled my out on to a ramp. The blurry sight around me was getting less and less visible every second. As they pushed me through the double doors of the building, I heard the oohs and ahhs of little girls and boys peeking out of the curtains of there windows. Most of them had blonde and brown hair. Very little were Chinese, or African American. My eyes started to burn and water dripped out of them. Eric told me to close them as they were pulling me inside the orphanage. As soon as I heard the word orphanage flash backs occurred. My mother holding me and handing me in, her blue eyes and her blonde wavy hair. I even remembered Eric from long ago when he first volunteered to be my orphanage advisory. Everything was clear, like a glass window. My thoughts slowly disappeared and were interrupted by the wake-up call from Eric. His eyes were dark blue and his hair was dirty blonde. His face anxiously peered over me. I could feel his warm breathing as my hands squeezed the side of the bed to pull myself up. The covers were white and felt like silk. The felt new on my feet. My head though... it felt TERRIBLE! I had a sudden feeling like a boulder had been dropped on head, breaking every bone inside of it. Eric helped me get up and placed a squishy black piece of soft medal over my head, and suddenly the pain went away. The room I stood in was bright pink and had portraits of famous heroes from back then. Most of them were darker skinned. The ceiling was prickly and had a popcorn design to it. "This is what they call a popcorn ceiling." Eric's voice echoed through the small room. He seemed surprised that I was recovering from my concussion quickly. A little girl ran through the door and shattered the piece and quiet.. She looked about my age. Eric's grabbed her and she scrambled in his arms, and giggled. " Sorry, I may have forgotten to introduce you to your orphanage room mate, this is Gigi. You may not remember, but she was your room mate when you were 5. When you left the orphanage." Eric's voice became low and soft. His eyes glared in my direction as if I had to say something. I opened my mouth to get some air and than started to take my first word in two days. " Um, nice to meet you Gigi, I am Abby, and I am seven. I got adopted two years ago when I was five." My voice sounded younger and my throat felt free. I was about to ask her a question when suddenly her squeaky voice struck my ears. " What is that medal thing on your head." Eric rapped his arms around my back and lead Gigi to the hall. My eyes finally focused and the walls appeared to be white, and the satin carpet was white satin. And the bed, was a hospital bed. The room became very lonely and quiet after a while. All I could hear were the whispers of Eric and his soft sweet voice coming threw the door. I couldn't make out what he was saying but I new that I got GiGi in trouble with this stupid head gear. Sure she made me feel bad sometimes, but I got her in trouble, and I had to go apologize. My legs vibrated and shook as I pulled myself up out of the bed. Gigi's bed was bright blue with white flowers. It was opposite of mine. Mine was white and painful. A curtain separated our two sides of the room. Mine looked like it was a doctors office, medical sharp needles and doctor tools hung from the walls. On her side, beautiful portraits hung from the wall. Her carpet was rainbow, mine was just white. I made my way to the door. Right when I was about to turn the knob to step outside, Eric opened the door and I tumbled into his arms. " What are you doing out of bed! You need your wheel chair still." His eyes bolded and grew larger than the biggest pumpkin. And that is when I understood everything. My legs suddenly just gave up and the wobbling stopped. Instead I fell to the floor. Sharp Pains flew up and down my leg like a hurricane. My hips had pins and needles going up them. It stung like a thousand be stings in my knees.
I felt the sudden urge to flip out and scream, but something stopped me. Something calming. Eric's arms wrapped around me and boosted me up in bed. The pins and needles began to slow down and my hips got back in place. " You are not to get out of bed, stay there while I go down to the lobby and get you your wheel chair. " Eric flew out the door like a cheetah and I could still hear his soft stomping as he made his way down the steep orphanage stairs. While Eric was out this was my chance to apologize to Gigi, and start over. Gigi made her way over to her bed and pulled the bright pink covers over her. I could hear the pouting from across the room and the little weeps made me feel empty inside. Her legs curled up to her chested. "Hey, um Gigi" my voice stuttered a little, " Are you okay, I am sorry for getting you in trouble" " Go Away!" Gigi's legs curled up tighter to her chin as she pouted." I quietly pulled my covers in and ignored her quiet pouting. When Eric gets back, I want to go outside and just... sit. Think about what I am going to do if I am adopted, or if I stay here forever.
The creak of the door startled me as Eric's head popped in. He wheeled in a large chair with a foot rest in front of it. I have never seen a chair with wheels before, except rolly chairs. Eric pushed the chair over to my side of the bed. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep. I felt his hand on my head. Then, slowly he let his hands free, and the next thing I heard was the door shut. When I opened my eyes the room was quiet and empty. GiGi was no where to be seen. As I got up I squirmed my toes, and my bear feet felt weird on the soft white carpet. Although I remembered what Eric had said about my broken legs so I quickly sat in the weird unknown chair. The seat was padded with a cushion like surface. And the arm rest was a bright purple. Actually the whole chair was purple. On the back in blue my name was engraved on it and pokadots filled the center. A instruction manual layed on one arm rest. It said that my hands are supposed to go on the wheels and I am supposed to push, this is supposed to make the chair move forward. As I carefully layed my hands on the arm rest I pushed forward slightly and the chair shook and moved forward. The wheel chair was annoying but I think that I could get used to it. I pushed the button next to the door and it opened automatically. A long hallway with doors on either side narrowed to a elevator. The carpet was a bright red and it had swirly designs sewed onto it. There was another elevator next to me with a white and yellow chandelier hanging from the top. The front was glass so you could see the city streets, and the ceiling had a beautiful skylight. Although the one thing that I hated was the bars, the steel bars that were almost rusted. They surrounded the outside of the elevator for safety, or if you were handicap.
I pressed the down arrow that said lobby. Suddenly, it shook, I almost got sick and threw up. My head ache came back and my legs burnt. The elevator looked like it was going down faster than normal. An alarm next to the skylight turned bright red, and a alarm sound buzzed and made high pitched sounds to go with it. The ceiling shot water with a high pressure. My heart rate grew and my chest started to pain. Was I gonna die. My breathing picked up and soon enough everything stopped. The buzzing, the high pitched sound, even the water stopped coming down. The door in back of me opened slowly and men with black and red suits came from every corner and surrounded me. I heard Eric's voice coming from behind the crowd of people and then he pushed through the crown of tall men. A black dresses woman tugged me out and pushed me to the doors that lead to outside. What the heck was happening. Earlier I was in a shaking elevator ready to die, or pass out and now I am in a peaceful garden with a random lady and tall men. This was confusing, how the heck did I get out here. Eric walked up to me and brought me a hot dog. His face had many emotions. So many I could barely read it. His eyebrows arched up and he began to speak. " Sorry, I see that, you have no idea what is going on. We brought you out here to meet someone. Someone special. Here she is" A tall black dressed lady came from behind the bushes. My heart froze. And I could barely move. My eyes blurred from the site of this. Eric started to speak again, " this is your new mother. "
