Part 16 many o' fish

I continued to walk upstream hoping that the river either splits, becomes narrower, or joins with a lake somewhere. Luckily for me, I'm pretty sure it's about to have two rivers merge into one ahead... cause it is getting wider. shallower even and sure enough there is a river coming from the right and one coming from the left which when they collide creates a dangerous yet beautiful death river current that can drag you under and kill you. I'm guessing I'm in the middle between two mountains with melting snow which can be dangerous because mudslides are rather common when the dirt on the steep slopes of mountains gets wet and have lots of heavy-leaning trees. 

I sit down a couple of meters from the river on a patch of clear grass and watch the deadly collision of the brute forces of nature carving paths to the ocean. I then decided that I would get up and start walking towards the ocean cause there is more food there and I like the sound of the ocean more than the river.. and I wanna smell that good ol' seawater that I hadn't smelled for a few thousand years.

I continue strolling by the riverside downstream. I've concluded that the season is spring. seeing as there is still melting snow on the ground and some parts of the mountains it is most likely the month of march... which is good I guess since it'll be easier to survive if I'm not immediately struck by winter without proper clothing or shelter. and I'm going to need oil and sodium carbonate so I can make soap to keep myself clean. but first, I need shelter and a stable food source before I can fulfill my random whims like drawing or clothes. I continue walking for what felt like hours until the sun had set completely and I could see the moon over the trees. 

I could hear the faint sound of oceanic waves and I decided now would be the time to find a clearing a little farther into the trees away from the river so I wouldn't be affected by river flooding in the long term. there was a very empty clearing about 100 meters into the forest.. the land was a little higher than sea level and there was a massive cherry tree in the center.. prolly one of the new generation cherry blossoms that are self-pollinating.  I thought to myself that it would be an amazing place to build my survival shack, so I put that in the back of my mind for later. 

I put my basket down and prepared to make a friction fire. I grabbed the braided string I made earlier and tied each end to a stick making sure the rope was slightly slack in the middle. I neatly stacked all my firewood next to me and cleared a spot on the ground where I would put my lit fire... I will prolly have several different fire pits so I can keep warm without having to smell fish all the time... I do know how to make noodles and stuff but I don't have nearly enough technology to cook them. my main concern right now is to get this fire started and to make some clothes to keep warm and also to protect me from the sun... and the discomfort of wearing leaves. 

I take the sorta bow-shaped thing with the braided string and put a stick through it twisting the string once counter-clockwise around the stick. I then place the stick onto the piece I want to start the friction fire on.  I take off my shoes grab the sap wrapped in leaves and wipe the sap over the chunk of wood so the sap catches the sparks well. I carve a little hole into the piece of wood as well to hold the friction stick in place so it generates heat faster and more efficiently.  I work at it for a while rubbing the stick back and forth.. taking turns with my dominant left hand and my weaker right hand.
