First day back

I sat in my dorm room as I was sorting the books in my bag to prepare for the classes I had for the day. I felt quite anxious, classes for the new year started a week ago and I had only just returned to campus after having been in Paris with my dad and his new girlfriend. I hoped I hadn't missed too much. Usually the first week was just settling in again and meeting new faculty members and recapping last year's work. But this was my second year, maybe they started learning new things in the first week.

I heard a knock on my door, I zipped my bag closed and slung it over my shoulder, making my way to the door. I opened the door and was instantly hugged.

"Ronnie!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms around my boyfriend's neck.

"Hey babe, shit I've missed you. I'm so glad you're back." he said lifting me off the ground.

"I missed you too." I said as he set my feet on the ground again.

He brought his lips down to meet mine and I kissed him back. He let his hands trail down my back until it rested on my ass.

"Quickie?" he asked as he broke the kiss.

"Babe! We can't we're going to be late." I said as I pecked him on the nose.

"Boo. Later then?" he asked.

"Yeah, later, I promise." I giggled and I let go of his neck.

"Let's go." he said as he took my hand and lead me out of my room, closing the door behind us.

We walked across the campus towards the building our first class was in.

"I should probably catch you up on what you missed last week." he said breaking our comfortable silence.

"Please do, I feel a little anxious." I said and he squeezed my hand reassuringly.

"Well, no work has been taught yet, so don't worry about that. But a few weird things happened." he said.

"Oh? Like what?" I asked.

"We had a few animal attacks. Five students got attacked by some animal that had them sent to the hospital. When asked what they were attacked by, none of them could remember. It was bad, the school put a curfew in place because the attacks all happened after 11pm, so we aren't allowed outside our dorms after 10pm." he explained.

"What? That's insane. So they have no idea what's attacking the students?" I asked him and he shook his head.

"The academy is being oddly secretive about it, they don't want it getting out to the media. Could you imagine the headlines? The academy has to protect its image. You know how that goes." he continued.

"Yeah, I know. You must be so bummed. No frat parties for you." I teased.

"There are still parties you know, they just start earlier and end before 10pm." he chuckled.

"Darn, you aren't planning to make me go to these parties with you are you?" I whined.

"Babe... You know you have to. Who else is going to keep me in check? Besides, we are trying to break you out of your little introvert shell. Maybe you'll even take on a roommate this year." he cooed.

"Nah, I like my little introvert shell and having a whole room to myself." I mused and he just shook his head at me.

We had arrived at my class and he swung me around to kiss me.

"Good luck babe, see you at lunch okay?" he said and I nodded.

He let me go and walked down the corridor to his class.

"Oh you're back?" Evelynn said as she approached me.

"Yes. Arrived this morning." I answered and she tied her loose purple hair into a quick messy ponytail.

"How was Paris? Did you bring anything back for your bestie, Scar?" she said before hugging me.

I hugged her back then opened the front of my bag to take out the silver bracelet with a tiny Eiffel Tower charm. I handed it to her and she squealed in delight.

"I love it, thank you." she said as she put it on and admired her wrist.

"Ronnie told me about the animal attacks on campus." I told her.

"Yeah, It's crazy isn't it? An attack everyday of last week. The students are getting scared to walk around campus alone." she said as she linked her arm in mine.

We entered our class together and went to our assigned seats. Evelynn sat beside me and as the class filled up I noticed Cassidy's table next to me was vacant.

"Where's Cass?" I asked Evelynn.

"She was the first victim. She's apparently dropping out, too scared to come back." Evelynn said as she took out her books.

I did the same and our professor walked into the class as the bell went, indicating the start of class.

"Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is well-rested and fresh on this Monday morning so we can begin our course material. Before we begin, I feel you deserve to know that miss Cassidy Walker will not be returning. She has chosen to leave the Academy. Her seat will be taken by a transfer student starting tomorrow. Now, can we all turn to page 24 of our Anatomy textbooks. Today we will be covering the muscles in the back." Mr Caid said.

Mr Caid gave his lesson as the attendance sheet made its way to me after Evelynn. I signed next to my name and saw a name under mine that I didn't recognize. Andrew Biersack, and a bunch of blank blocks next it, indicating he hadn't been in class last week either. The name under his was Dereck who sat in the seat next to the vacant one next to mine. I put it on the empty desk and he took it.

"Pssst, the guys dorm is having a party tonight. You going?" Evelynn whispered to me.

"I guess. Ronnie will insist that I go with him." I whispered back.

"Good, are we getting ready in your room?" she asked and I nodded.

She smiled in approval. The bell went, indicating the end of the lesson.

"Miss White, can you please come to my desk?" Mr Caid called out.

"I'll see you later Eve." I said to her as I got up.

"Yeah, I'll be at your room at 5." she said before standing as well.

I nodded them walked over to Mr Caid's desk.

"Nice to see you again Miss White. You have a good holiday?" he asked as he put his long grey coat on.

"Yes Sir, it was lovely." I said politely.

He ran his hand through his brown hair and took off his glasses, hanging it on his shirt. He was attractive, most of the girls in the class had a thing for him and I honestly couldn't blame them. He stood at 6'2", had well-defining facial features and bright green eyes.

"I have a folder for you containing extra study material, I know last year you requested it. I thought I'd prepare it for you pre-emptively." he said as he took a folder out his top draw and handed it to me.

"Wow, Uhm, Thank you so much Mr Caid. I really appreciate it." I said and he flashed me a kind smile.

"I hope to see you stay at the top of the class. Also...I'm not sure if you've heard about the animal attacks on campus." he said.

"I have Sir." I replied.

"Okay, just please... take care of yourself." he said sincerely.

"I will Sir, you too." I said and he nodded and swung his laptop bag's strap over his shoulder.

I took that as my cue to leave. He followed me out the class and closed the door behind him. Once outside the classroom we headed down different directions of the corridor.
