That night as I was doing homework, someone knocked at the door. My mother was at work and I was the only one there. I guessed it was Sarah, but then again she doesn't usually come over this late. As I went down the hall I also grabbed the pepper spray off the counter just in case.

When I got to the entrance hall I heard argueing on the front porch. There was two people? This was not good. If they were thugs, they could easily take me down in less than a second. When i got to the door I peeked through the peephole and an eye stared back at me. I nearly jumped five feet and I screamed at the top of my lungs. I heard laughing from outside.

"Oh and now your the scardy cat too?," said a familiar voice.

"Wait a minute," I said in a low voice to myself.

I swung the door open to see Sarah and Alyssa standing there laughing their heads off.

"You guys! That is so not funny!" I screamed at them. "Your lucky I didn't use this on you!" I said, showing them the pepper spray. They just ignored me though.

"You should have seen your face!" said Sarah.

"That was so hilarious!" Alyssa chuckled.

I pouted and stepped out of the way so they could come in. They came in, still laughing.

"Guys it isn't that funny," I said blankly.

"Oh come on, lighten up. We were just trying to have some fun," Alyssa said.

We went to the kitchen and all sat down at the island.

"So, how was your day?" asked Sarah.

"Fine...just fine," I said.

"That doesn't sound good."

"Well what did you expect?"

There was a pause. Sarah and Alyssa exchanged worried looks.

"What? What is it?" I asked.

"Well you see, we saw the news and well..."

"And?" I prompted.

"You didnt see did you?" Alyssa asked.

"Uhh, no" I replied, a confused look planted on my face.

"I don't know how to tell you this Bree, but your mom was in a car accident," said Sarah, a pained look on her face.

I stared into their faces, my mouthed dropped open, and my shoulders sagged. I was in complete and total shock.

"W-what?" I whispered.

They both came over to hug me.

"I'm really sorry Bree," Sarah said in a low voice.

"B-but, she survived didn't she? Is she in the hospital? What am I supposed to do? Where am I supposed to go?!" I started freaking out and pacing back and forth.

"Bree! Calm down! Just come with us. We'll take you to where she is."

So I followed them to Alyssa's car and got in. I buckled my seat belt and relaxed in the seat. But I let out a sob. Hardly audible to my friends ears. How can my life get any worse?

~.~.~.~.~.~.~

We pulled up to the east side of the hospital where the emergencey room was. I jumped out before the car even came to a stop and starting running to the building where my mother was. My friends were trying to keep up but I was running to fast for them. As soon as I ran through the door, I dashed over to the front desk. The lady peered over to look at me.

"Name?" she asked.

"My name is Bree Stevens. I'm here to see my mom, Clara Stevens," I said, anxious to get to my mother.

The woman looked at a piece of paper on her desk that I assumed had all the patients names on it.

"Go down the hall and it will be the second door on the left," she told me blankly.

I turned around to see if my friends were there and sure enough they just now were coming through the door, panting.

"Oh, and they are with me also," I said to the lady, pointing at my friends. I waved my friends to come with me and they followed.

As we walked down the hall I started to get faster. Soon I was sprinting towards her room.

When we reached her door I peeped in the window first to make sure she was in there. When I saw that she was, I turned the doorknob, slowly opening the door, hoping not to alarm her if I just burst in. When I caught sight of her in a bunch of casts and a needle poking into her arm I couldn't help but cry. She was awake, and when she saw me crying she waved me over to come sit next to her.

"Breanna, there is no need for crying. I'll be alright, honey. Shhh, calm down," she tried to soothe me. She was always known for being strong when something bad happens. I hardly ever see her cry.

I began to stop crying but I was breathing heavy.

"M-mom, what exactly happened in the car accident? How did it happen?" I asked, my eyes still wet. I looked down, not able to make eye contact with her when she was in this state.

"Well, honey, I was turning onto Heyberry street, you know that intersection there right? Well when i was turning a car came out of nowhere and wouldnt stop and, well, they crashed into me. But I'm sure i'll be all right."

With that said I looked up at her with wide eyes. I completely forgot that another person was of course injured in this accident. I turned around remembering my friends were still there.

"Sarah, Alyssa. I have a task for you."

"And that is?" Sarah said.

I turned back to my mom.

"Mom, who was the other person in the accident?"

"Oliver Hunters, I think.."

I looked back at my friends with even wider eyes than before.

"Gals, we're gonna pay a visit to him."

They glanced at each other. I knew what they were thinking. What is she getting us into now
