Cheryl had her hands on her face, so Kimberley couldn't pull away. Not that she wanted to. She just felt that she should. She fell into the kiss, let herself go, until Cheryl pulled away abruptly. 'Oh God.' She said, covering her mouth with her hands. 'Oh God. sh!t. I'm so sorry... I don't know what came over us.' She backed away until she hit the sink. Kimberley didn't speak. They just stared at each other.

'I'll go.' Cheryl said. 'I'm sorry. I'll go.' She ran out of the room. It didn't take long for Kimberley to come to her senses and follow her. Cheryl was pulling Kimberley's borrowed jacket back on. 'Cheryl, stop. You're not going anywhere.'

'But... you're angry at us.'

Kimberley actually laughed. 'Of course I'm not you fool! Just forget about it! Anyway where were you planning on going?'

'Oh yeah.'

'Exactly. Now, what shall we get to eat?'

Later that night, Cheryl and Kimberley were watching 'Halloween' on the sofa with a bowl of ice cream each. It had gone off for an ad break, and Kimberley said, 'are you nervous about seeing Ashley tomorrow?'

Cheryl licked her spoon clean of ice cream before answering. 'Not really. I dunno, I'm really looking forward to it actually.' She giggled like a schoolgirl. 'I remembered something about him before.'

'Really? You should have said! What was it?'

'I remembered how he proposed. I got home late from work one night and he said he'd left me some curry in the microwave. When I went to heat it up the ring was just sat in the sauce, and when I turned round he was on one knee.'

Kimberley listened politely. Of course, she already knew this. She had been the first person Cheryl had called with the news. The film came back on and Cheryl leaned back, bringing the bowl up to her chest. 'I hope I remember more tomorrow.'

'I'm sure you will. Maybe you'll have a dream about him.'

Just then, on the screen, there was a throb of intense music as a scary scene came on. Cheryl screamed. Her ice cream bowl went in the air and landed all over Kimberley. Kimberley screamed too, mainly at the cold mess of stuff now seeping through the white vest top she had on for bed. She sat up, letting the bowl fall onto her lap. There was chocolate ice cream all over her chest. 'Oh my God, Kimberley, I'm so so sorry!' Cheryl moaned. Kimberley looked up. Their eyes met, Kimberley snorted with laughter and that was it. Within minutes they were in hysterics. Kimberley slapped her palm in the mess of chocolate and wiped it down Cheryl's face. Cheryl squealed and shrank away. She grabbed Kimberley's spoon off the coffee table and flicked it at her, hitting right on target in the middle of her forehead. Kimberley lunged, and regardless of the mess it would make, plunged her hand into the rest of her own ice cream and threw herself onto Cheryl, rubbing it on every bit of the girl she could reach through her flailing arms. 'Kimberley!! Aaargh! It's freezing!'

Kimberley laughed at Cheryl's girly squeals. They continued to laugh and lunge at each other until Cheryl ended up on top of Kimberley on the sofa. They both stopped at the same time and just looked at each other, panting. 'This is weird.' Cheryl murmured.

'What is? Being covered in ice cream?' Kimberley giggled. Cheryl looked serious.

'No. I... I feel like I've known you for years.'

'You have known me for years.' Kimberley snorted. Cheryl thumped her arm and they both sat up, still looking at each other. 'It's different for us now though. Like I only met you a couple of days ago, but... it feels like there's something...deeper.'

'I'm gonna have to start calling you Mystic Cheryl.' Kimberley said.

'Oh shut up! I'm gonna go for a shower, I'm all sticky.'

Kimberley watched Cheryl go to the bathroom and sighed wistfully. She turned the TV off just as her phone buzzed with a text. It was Nadine.

Hi babe, sorry its late. Hows Chez doing? We should get together in a few days. Hav u told her about you 2 yet? XX

Kimberley pondered this for a moment, then sent a message back.

Chez doing well. Ashley picking her up tomorrow. Meet for lunch when she's gone? Not told her anything. Need u to help me decide what to do. X

While she waited for a reply, Kimberley stood up and whipped off her soaking, sticky vest top, wiping as much ice cream off her chest, arms and face as she could with it before screwing it up and throwing it carelessly into the corner outside the bathroom. She took the bowls and her phone into the kitchen, and was drying them when Nadine replied.

No problem, day off tomorrow. Come to mine when she's gone. Take care nighty night X

Kimberley turned her phone off before getting in the shower after Cheryl. She didn't think for one minute Cheryl would go through her phone, but she was paranoid. In a way she was glad Ashley was coming tomorrow. She needed a bit of space to rebuild the walls an oblivious Cheryl had started to hammer at again. She couldn't let that happen.
