I find myself frightened and confused starring down unto the illuminating screen of my phone. I wish I had thought more before i did something so stupid, but now theres no going back. My finger is hovering over where I had just hit the blue send button. Regret is surrounding me but again it's too late. If only I-
"WAIT!!! This isn't the beginning at all! Ahem, now if you readers don't mind the sudden cliff hanger let's start from where it really began."
September 4th 20XX-
As I look at myself through the mirror I tell myself everything will be just fine and that High School won't completely suck ass. All of my older friends may have made it clear that freshman year was a complete mess for them but I live out of spite so maybe it'll be different for me. I swing my hefty bag over my right shoulder and head downstairs still feeling murky from lack of sleep. I enter the kitchen and quickly grab a piece of bread and stick it into the toaster.
"Will you just shut up for once?"
"Excuse me young lady do you know whose roof you live under?! I do a lot of stuff for you and you never appreciate me you little bitch. Now I suggest you eat some breakfast before I make sure I homeschool you till college."
"Ugh."
The voices of my sister and mom arguing radiate throughout the kitchen. Typically what I do is pretend I'm invisible and not get involved, but at that very second a piece of toast conveniently shoots out from the toaster making a loud enough voice for my mom to turn to me.
"Why isn't your bag in the car?" She asks, sounding slightly annoyed.
"I'm making breakfa-"
"Are you back talking me?" She says, raising her eyebrow.
"No?" I question.
"You better not be. Now go put your stuff in the car this instant." She commands.
I decide it's not worth the argument and go put my bag into the back of the car. When I get back inside I check the time and it reads 6:53 just 2 minutes before we have to leave for school. I remember that I forgot to fill my hydroflask so I begin to do so. My mom continues to pace the house making sure everything is in order then leaves with my sister to get in the car. Now that my hydroflask is all filled I'm ready to go. I walk to the car where my mom and sister are now already sitting inside and it hits me. I forgot to grab the fucking toast. I quickly dart back to grab my toast and then go back and sit in the car. Nothing like a cold piece of toast in the morning. Really fills you with joy, doesn't it?
As I munch on my piece of toast we pull up to the school parking lot. My mom parks, wishes us well on our first day, and then opens the back so we can grab our stuff. I put the piece of toast in my mouth due to the lack of hands and head inside the school building. For context my school is a K-12 private school so unfortunately I happen to be in the same building as my sister.
A few elementary teachers are greeting students at the front but I quickly slip past them in order to avoid conversation with them. I slip by the office real quick to grab my locker number and code along with my schedule then head into the main hallway. I find locker number 54 and begin entering the code all while having a piece of toast wedged in between my teeth. I dump all my extra books into the locker and recheck my schedule to see what my homeroom is.
"Spanish 1" I mumble
"Oh really? I have the same first class, maybe we'll see each other."
I scream, dropping my toast onto the dirty concrete floor.
"Oh no I'm sorry! Didn't mean to scare you there."
I look up to see a familiar face.
"Oh hey! How are you Alec?" I ask bending down to grab my now ruined breakfast.
"I'm doing pretty well. How about yourself?" He asks. I notice how much taller he is than last year. Maybe 5,11 6ft? I feel so short standing next to him. Weird.
"I'm doing ok. Yknow aside from the toast issue." I giggle even though it's not that funny.
"Oh yeah super sorry about that by the way." He says apologetically.
"It's alright." I say.
"Cya in Spanish?" he asks.
"Yeah, sure" I reply.
Alec walks off further down the hallway most likely catching up with his other friends. Meanwhile I'm over here walking to the cafeteria trashcan to throw away my cold, dirty, toast. Some people would say I'm a mess but I'd call it creativity throughout my day.
