It was never comfortable to walk home alone at night and today was no exception. I was on my way home from the grocery store about three blocks from our house and I let my imagination get away from me on this trip. I thought about all the terrible things that happen to girls when they go places alone, the thought made me shudder and I began to walk faster. Out of nowhere someone called out to me.
"Hey babe! Where you running off to so fast?" A drunken voice yelled from an alley I'd just passed. This is what I get for being paranoid, I thought but started walking faster.
"No, don't run away. A pretty thing like you doesn't walk through here all too often." I rolled my eyes and kept walking. I started to hum loudly to drown out the sound of the mans words. Before I knew it, someone grabbed my arm.
"W-what th-" my words were cut off by an abrupt slap in the mouth. I cried out in pain and I felt the blood trickle down my lip. "What are you doing?" I cried when the man started pulling me towered him. I panicked and quickly punched him in the jaw. I heard and crack and felt the sharp pain in my hand as I screamed. The drunk man laughed as he grabbed me by the hair and pulled my face to his.
I could smell the alcohol on his breath as he laughed in my face.
"How pretty your face is, it's too bad I'm going to have to ruin it for you." The drunk man said with a laugh as he grabbed my jaw and I spat in his face. He growled something incoherent and slapped me. I winced and screamed once more.
Suddenly the man was no longer grabbing me, he was on the ground holding his face, his hands covered in blood. I looked to see what had caused this when my eyes landed upon...Evan?!
"What are you doing here?!" I said in surprise.
"Uh saving you from that piece of shit. It's good I drove home this way or who knows what would have happened to you." Evan said.
"Well I had him." I said turning up my nose. The last thing I needed was Evan being an ass and rubbing this in my face.
"Yeah, you really looked like you had him."
"I did! I was going to use the element of surprise." I said with a huff.
"Were you going to do that before or after he raped you?" Evan asked.
"He wasn't going to rape me."
"Yeah whatever. Because girls that get attacked in alleys just get sent home in one piece right?" Evan rolled his eyes. "Get in the car. I'm taking you home." I did what he asked wordlessly but secretly enjoyed the time together, even if he was pissed off at me, he still saved me.
Th ride home was absolutely silent until Evan's phone rang. I smirked when I realized the song was "shoulda been a cowboy" how original.
"I'm on my way Lex, I had to make a stop....No I'll tell you when we get there....yes we....ok ok bye Lex."
"Is she angry that you're not home?" I asked warily. Alexis and I were friends and the last thing I needed right now was her mad at me.
"No, just worried. I was due back and hour ago."
"Oh." I replied. "I'm sorry I held you up so long."
"No, you held me up like 15 minutes maybe. I was late anyways from Lacey's." Lacey's?! I thought, were they dating now? Your getting jealous, I told myself. He's not your property, just your knight in not-so-shining armor.
We arrived back at Evan and Alexis' house in minutes and I sighed as Evan left the car and went straight up to his room. So much for us having any alone time I thought with a frown.
"What's wrong?" Alexis asked, pulling me from my thoughts with a jolt. I hadn't even heard her walk up to me.
"Nothing. Just kinda shocked."
"Oh," she said "Evan told me a little about it." We walked inside and up to Alexis and Evan's tv room to do our nails while we talked about allege stuff that happened. I was so glad to have friends that lived close...
