pov - gale
and yet through the happy amounts of marriage with my new husband who's been my highschool sweetheart, i still haven't been able to move on from someone. and yet, although he played with my heartstrings, i still cannot forget him. saul. he was just as stupid and as plain as his name could be, and yet, when i was head over heels for him, he played with me. it broke my heart more than anything, and yet i thought i found the one. the one who i believed it to be the love of my life, haydel.
but yet, haydel has been there through my toughest times of heartbreak due to saul. and yet, even after the proposal underneath the bright purplish moonlight of a summer afternoon, even after the constant hugs and comfort within all i've been through, i still can't move on. and the guilt has been swallowing me slowly like a pit of mold. just as saul played with my heartstrings, haydel was there. this doesn't feel right after everything, now at college and engaged, i still cannot forget him.
"honey, are you okay?" haydel asked, as he saw me in the constant amount of spacing out whilst i was cooking, his hand around a brown coffee mug, a snickers bar right next to his right hand, as it was half eaten. his hair greasy under the dim lighting.
"oh, yes i'm fine. just.. constantly remembering things. but- i'm okay" i stated quietly, my voice dry as my spouse sat there as i daydreamed over the constant remembering of the dates me and saul had.
"well- you don't seem fine" he stated, a slight shake in his voice as he sipped on the coffee mug, it was pouring outside. and thunder shook the earth.
i ignored what he said and continued to stir the tomato soup, embarrassment V8 but more thought popping onto my head as i continued to think about my highschool life. It had been years since i graduated from highschool. and yet i'm standing here in me and my husbands apartment, daydreaming about my ex. saul. he took things quickly, which made me feel closer to him as rumors spread that he never took things quickly with anyone unless he was interested. it made my heart jump just hearing those words. but just as almost all rumors, it was a lie. he wasn't interested in me, he just wanted attention from a girl he used to like, genesis. and yet it didn't end up working between them.
i bit my lip as i served the soup into two bowls, our husky dog coming over asking for food aswell, it's bright blue eyes shimmering. i grabbed treats for him, patted him, and gave him the treats as he joyfully ate them. i looked at the time, and checked that it was almost ten at night, me and haydel had college the next day, in our small apartment filled with plants and other decorations, we decided to call it a night after we finished our dinner, i sat next to my husband as we both peacefully ate our dinner, the snickers bar still half uneaten next to him as i grabbed his hand. he looked over at me and gave me a small smile. i couldn't believe that he was now my partner, i feel happy around him and yet, i still feel attached to saul. i wish i could pick, but my heart would splatter if i had to choose between both. saul is someone greedy and discriminating, and so is haydel, but he gives me comfort. i can't decide between them. i barely slept that night.
next day
...
the morning sun hit my face as the large window in our shared bedroom was open, the slight cold breeze creeping in as i reached for my glasses. i placed them over my face as i looked out the window and saw the early 6:00am sun. the sky a slight radiance of colors right infront of me, i hugged my arms close to me as i looked outside, forgetting about college for a second and thinking about my messed up love life at the moment when i suddenly felt a pair of arms on me, i looked behind me slightly and saw my smiling husband. i looked at him and smiled slightly, the guilt in my heart still sticking with me.
