"I can't take this anymore." Ari said, shuffling around the cell a few hours later. It was dark, except for a light coming from the front entrance. Cody looked up from under Waverly's bed. I don't know how he ended down there, but he nuzzled back into his sleeping position as soon as he saw me staring at him.
We still heard Becca's screams. It wasn't easy to sleep with all that noise. But most of my family managed to ignore it.
I stood up and touched Ari's arm lightly. She spun around, stunned that I was awake too.
"You can't sleep?" I asked.
"Your ex girlfriend is a caged animal." She said, scoffing.
I nodded. Even in the dark light, I still saw Ari's blue eyes sparkle. She seemed so calm, even though this situation was hard to bear.
She really supported me. And that's what I love about her.
"Wanna take a walk?" I suggested.
The jail cell wasn't locked, since we weren't in trouble. I swung open the cage looking door. Ari stepped out of the cell and then I did. She shut the door and we walked down the hallway. With each step we took, Becca's screams were louder and louder. Her mom stopped a long time ago. Anderson was crying. I heard a soft weeping sound coming from near our cell.
Ari and I reached the front lobby area. Becca's cell was the first one on the left of the next hallway. Her mom's was the next one over. Security guards sat in between the doors. They smiled as they saw us.
I opened the front door to go outside. Ari followed me outside and we circled around the building. It was still dark outside. The houses around the neighborhood had dark windows. Cars were parked in the driveways of the houses. The street was basically asleep.
I spotted a bench next to the building. I sat down next to Ari and we looked up at the sky. It was a hazy brown color and there were gray puffy clouds swimming across. A bird flew by quickly. And there were distant lights from an airplane up there too.
The wind picked up. I looked at the trees around the lawn. They swayed with it.
Ari grabbed hold of my arm and she held it for a moment before she let go when she realized how awkward the situation got.
"It's nice to get some rest out here." she said. "It's actually peaceful, you know, without Becca and her mom screaming."
"Yeah." I said.
Ari's blonde hair whirred in the wind. It beat against my shoulder and she had to brush it away from her face in order to see me.
"Remember when we first met?" She asked.
"Of course I do." I said.
"Remember when I told you how I became a Runaway?"
"Uh...yes." I said, looking back at the time I met the Runaways.
"I think about my family. Before all that shit happened to it." Ari said, shaking her head at the though of her past.
"Don't think about the past. The future has something for you. I speak from experience." I said.
Ari giggled.
"That's what I love about you, Runo. You relate to me the most. And you are the funniest too."
Ari smiled at me. She really knew how to live her life to the fullest. She was so brave and strong, and I admired that a lot.
"Remember the abandoned house?" I asked.
"Hell yea. I can't believe we got caught there. I was so angry when I saw them taking you away. Back then we were literally in a relationship. It hurt my heart to see you upset." Ari said.
"I was scared that I wouldn't see you again." She added.
"Me too."
"Even though we did bad stuff in the past, no one thinks of us any differently. Except the haters." Ari said, laughing off the pain.
"Haters suck."
"Agreed."
"I feel bad about killing Misty. He haunts my memories and I even see his ghost sometimes." I said.
Ari nodded.
"I see ghosts sometimes too. You're not crazy; I know what you're talking about." Ari said, lightly leaning her head on my shoulder.
I shook her off. She seemed hurt by this. So I kissed her.
She pulled away, stunned.
"Runo...we can't do that here." She said.
"Sure we can! No ones watching us!" I said, leaning in again. But Ari only held her hand, blocking our lips.
"See that?" She said, pointing to the road.
Misty.
He stood there. In the center of the road. And he growled.
"Misty...?"
The dog barked and he shot toward us, full speed.
"Run." Ari said, grabbing my arm and she pulled be behind the building. We ran all around it, and this building was HUGE. Misty's ghost seemed to fly, that's how fast he was running.
I turned back occasionally to see him darting at us, non stop.
"Is he gone?" Ari asked, still holding my arm.
"No!" I screamed as I gripped her tighter.
Misty was almost at our tails. He looked right at me with those blue eyes and he barked. Loud.
Ari shrieked. Misty dove right at us, and we tumbled to the ground. The dog bit at our legs and he jumped all over us.
I tried to cover Ari, but Misty kept yanking me off by biting my shirt and pulling back.
I was not gonna let this ghost Misty kill me or my best friend.
I kicked my leg out, and Misty fell back. That was my chance. I scrambled to my feet, and I grabbed Ari and I shoved her aside.
"Runo, you'll get hurt!" She said.
Misty jumped back at me. He barked and growled at me a billion times.
"Believe me, I know how to deal with this animal." I said, dodging a bite from him.
Misty bit at my leg and I swallowed a scream.
"No!" Ari screamed, pulling the dog away and throwing him against the brick wall.
He fell down, limp. Then he disappeared.
Ari saved us. She really did. Misty could've killed us.
I looked at my legs. The wounds slowly thinned and then they disappeared just like the dog did.
Ari's arms healed from the cuts on them. I looked at us. We were healing as if nothing happened.
About a minute passes and all the cuts and bite marks were gone without a trace.
"Let's go." Ari said. I agreed without hesitation.
Ari linked arms with me and we walked back to the cell for a few more hours.
