"I don't need you to stick up for me Steve now give him back the camera" she felt anger building up, that same feeling of wanting to punch Steve Harrington rapidly came back

Tommy was chuckling behind her "he wants the camera back" Steve grins "here's the camera man" he reaches out his arm, Jonathan went to grab it as Steve let go and it dropped the floor and smashed.

Regret washed over Steve as he saw the hatred and disgust in Jamie's face, he thought it was 'protecting' her but as she stated she hadn't needed his help. He turned to Nancy "come on the games about to start" he put his arm around her as the group walked away.

Jamie kneeled down and helped Jonathan pick up the left overs of his camera "I swear to you Jamie I wasn't being a creep" he finally looked at her

"It's fine" she tried to put the incident to the back of her head "but next time you take pictures of me" she handed him one of the lenses "please ask for permission Byers" she stood up "I'll see you around".

Jamie was getting ready for Riff to pick her up, she couldn't find her red jacket she usually loved "HOPPER" she yelled "HAVE YOU SEEN MY RED JACKET I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE" she searched through her draws

"UH NO I DON'T THINK SO" he yelled back.

There was a knock on the door "no time" she ran to the door before hopper could, she opened it to see Riff smiling "alright" she was about to yell hopper but realised it would look weird to Riff if she called her dad by his first name "DAD IM GOING OUT BYE" before he could answer she shut the door so hopper couldn't attempt to scare the boy away.

As Riff and Jamie walked down the street to get to the dinner they were going too she could feel stares facing her. She always knew about Riff's reputation, he was always seen as a violent person, he would get into a fight with someone for staring the wrong way at them. But to Jamie he was never perceived in that sorta way.

They got to the dinner and sat in one of the booths, the waitress came over chewing gum very obnoxiously "order ?" She looked at Riff

"I'll just take a chocolate milkshake" he gave her the men, the waitress's eyes crept over to Jamie's side

"Yeah I'll take the same" she replied to the waitress who just wrote it down

"Riff tell your ma she's got a 9 pm shift tonight" she started to turn "and tell her not to be late" she pointed

Riff put his hand on his head "I'm sorry" he looked embarrassed about his mother working in a dinner

"There's nothing to be sorry about" Jamie replied. Jamie had never been loaded with money either, luckily her and Hopper were just stable with him being the chief of police

"It's just me and my mom so she's taking as many jobs as she can" Riff explained

Jamie nodded "yeah I get you, it's just me and my dad so money is tough with one parent" she saw in Riff's face that he never knew she was missing a parent

The waitress came and put down two milkshakes and walked off again. "So if you don't mind what's your story then with your family" Riff said as he took a sip of the milkshake

Jamie and Hopper went through a little background together when she was young so people wouldn't be suspicious of her. "Mom died when I was young, I then moved in with my dad in Hawkins and have been here ever since"

Riff nodded and asked another question "so has your dad got any relatives that you see"

Jamie shook her head "he has a brother who I barely see" she took a sip of the milkshake "only every other Christmas I guess" she looked back at Riff "what about you ? What's your family like ?"

"Well I have two sisters who are both at college" Riff stated "and my mom's brother is always around so he's like a brother I guess"

Jamie nodded "so how comes you asked me on a date" she could see in his eyes that he wanted to change the subject

"Well I just felt bad for you" he said sarcastically "No I'm joking, I just always liked you and then when we were arguing about frogs guess I was just a bit more confident"

"Your always confident" Jamie laughed. Riff was a very high status around the school, he would always get invited to party's know the 'coolest' people. Him and his best friend Tony were seen as 'godly' to the other boys

"Yeah I know I'm always confident" he smiled "but asking you out made me nervous" he went down and sipped his drink again "I've heard that you've turned down like half the guys in our school"

Jamie was shocked to hear that, she was asked out by one guy in 9th grade which she rejected and that was it "I have not, probably a rumour"

Riff nodded "I hoped it was" he looked over at the waitress "hey why don't we go, I'll go pay and I'll meet you by my car ?" He half stood up

"Are you sure ? I mean I can pay for myself" Jamie also stood up

Riff shook his head "no I asked you too come let me pay" Jamie smiled at him and made her way to his car.

She opened the door and felt herself shove into someone "I am so sorry" she repeated as she looked up and saw Steve glaring at her, he had Nancy around his arm "oh never mind" she started walking away

"Rude" Steve exclaimed

"Lucky that's all your getting Harrington" she paused looking at him, he was nothing but a bully in her eyes. It hurt even more knowing that she genuinely thought she had been wrong about Steve

Steve scoffed "alright James calm down it was a stupid camera he can go out and buy another one" Steve never thought about what he was saying when it came to Jamie.

"Really" Jamie exhaled "his brother is missing and him and his whole family are trying to find him but oh he's going to worry about his camera that you broke" she walked closer

"Guys" Nancy mumbled "let's just go Steve"

Steve let go of Nancy "wait a sec nance, Jamie's sticking up for the weirdo that took pictures of her" he laughed "not like I was sticking up for you or anything"

Jamie smiled "right you were sticking up for me" she roared giggling to herself  "because of I need it do I ?" you could call Jamie lots of mean things, but arrogant was 100% one of them

"No I never said that"

"You and me Harrington" she pointed at him "we're not friends we never will be" Steve was never affected by Jamie's words but the fact she said that 'they never will be' chipped at a piece inside of him

The door of the dinner opened "Jamie what's going on" Riff came up beside Jamie not taking his eyes off Steve "we having a problem here ?"

Steve scoffed "you and Riff" he didn't look at anyone but Jamie "right" he nodded and looked up at Riff "good luck" he smiled and walked into the dinner with Jamie

"Well that was friendly" Riff exclaimed making Jamie giggle, they both walked to the car.
