The following morning other soldiers awoke and quickly stepped out of their tents arriving back to the exact spot as ordered in unison from as they were the night prior for 5:00 a.m. roll call. Death was not unfamiliar to these soldiers, and when they came across Tommy standing frozen solid with his right hand still saluted in patriotic form, most men took off their fitted caps in honor of respect, and carried on with their day as if nothing had even happened.
