Lucia's POV
Ten years.
It's been ten years since I last saw that face.
The same face that walked away from me without a word.
And now, he's standing right in front of the classroom door like nothing ever happened.
"Come in, Mr. Slivoski," the teacher says with a polite smile. "Could you kindly introduce yourself?"
"Sure," he replies, calm and collected. "Hello everyone. I'm Richard Slivoski. I recently moved to the States, but I'm originally from Japan. I hope we can all be friends." He smiles—charming, effortless, and devastatingly familiar.
All around me, I hear whispers and squeals. The girls are already obsessed.
"Oh my god, he's so handsome!"
"I love him already!"
But my heart? It's racing. Slamming inside my chest like it wants to escape.
I can't do this. I can't be here. I rise from my seat and bolt out of the room.
"Lucia!" I hear him call out, his voice echoing behind me—but I block everything out. I run until my legs give way, collapsing into a patch of soft grass and... dandelions.
Dandelions. Of course. The place where everything began.
Ten Years Ago
"Hello everyone! I'm Lucia Sherman and today is my first day of high school!" I beam into my phone camera, live streaming with uncontainable excitement. "I'm so pumped for this! And yes, I'm totally vlogging every second of it—don't judge!"
Comments flood in:
"You got this, girl!"
"SLAY THAT FIRST DAY!"
"Cute outfit omg!"
My mom's voice cuts through the stream.
"Lucia! Come get your breakfast!"
"That's my cue! Love you all, see you soon!" I blow a kiss to the camera and end the stream.
Breakfast smells heavenly—as always. My mom is an absolute cooking goddess. And yeah, I'm a total mommy's girl. She's all I've got left.
I head downstairs, hugging her from behind.
"Ready for your big day?" she asks, brushing my hair back and kissing my forehead.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" I giggle.
She hands me my backpack and lunch. "You're turning sixteen soon. Try not to act five?"
"Yeeep~!" I chirp, grabbing my things and racing out the door to catch the bus.
Author's POV-10 Years Ago
As the school bus pulls up, Lucia plugs in her headphones and taps play.
"Dandelions" by Ruth B. fills her ears—a song she holds close, though she's not quite sure why. She hums softly, unaware that someone is watching her.
A tall boy with short, curly black hair and piercing green-blue eyes stands a few seats behind her, a small smirk playing at his lips.
The bus pulls up to the school gate. Lucia steps off, takes a breath, and gazes at the building that marks the start of her new life. She heads in confidently—until she realizes she has no idea where the principal's office is.
"Hello, miss. Do you need help?"
She turns to see the green-eyed boy.
"Yes! Thank god—can you help me find the principal's office? I think I'm completely lost..." she admits with a sheepish laugh.
