This one REALLY did me in. Man, listen... Okay, firstly, I had no idea what era we were tapping into. My bias for the 80s (physical) LEAPED to brand new heights. I'd find something I thought fit but then had to remember the storyline so I'm like, "No, wait... They weren't talking during that time" or "Can't do that because they both were on tour. He was in Japan and she was in Australia." Then, I was like... Okay, well even though the year 1990 is literally swiped from the entire book, they were together a lot in the 1989-1990 timeframe.
That led to another rabbit hole. I'm sitting here DIGGING for some to work with and, of course, the laws of nature caused for my every considered photo to be practically nonexistent... Or shot by Jeff Katz, whose initially released photos are suddenly going poof. I was planning on scratching Cat's face out but all of a sudden my favorite pictures were all LQ and the HQ's literally were no where to be found— And I'm screaming as I write this because I just realized the pictures I wanted are literally in the book... Sigh. Well, I settled on Batman's era. I'm sifting through the scraps I could find and realized a studio picture would be cute.
New problem! Not a single picture of another person in there with him with the exception of like Mavis. I even considered using screenshots from the BBC footage. I wasn't stressed yet. No biggie, we'll edit somebody in. Life struck again. Imagine how hard that ended up being. I did one with Beyoncé as a test that wasn't bad but I knew I didn't want that. Plus, her sweater looked too 2011 instead of 1989. Then, I stumbled across a picture of Jan at the board and the hell I went through fitting that in as I struggled to remove Mavis— WHOSE WIG WAS THE HARDEST THING EVER TO PHOTOSHOP OUT. I mean, I'm using Adobe Editors Photoshop (Lightroom App on Mobile) and just straight flat out struggling. Then, Jan's standing but P's sitting so I have to sit here and try to figure out the fictional height distance between P and Nelly while I'm trying to disguise her standing as much as I can.
Cover 1 took me about an hour. This one took me about 17 hours on/off. And I went back because that's a 90s sign off and didn't want to criss cross eras like that. Lord.
