When I looked up from the phone I had destroyed, I saw a girl with dark brown hair.
Her bright blue eyes narrowed on me, while I stood in silence.
"Well? Pick it up and go get it fixed."
I looked at her for a moment before speaking.
Something was off about her.
Besides her rudeness to a stranger; there was something that was not right about her.
I picked up the smashed phone and examined the crushed corner and shattered screen.
"The phone was already on the ground. How is this my fault?"
Before I could even blink, I felt a sudden lurch in my stomach.
This psycho girl punched me.
"You'd better pay up, or there's gonna be a hell of a lot of trouble for you."
I could feel the confusion on my face.
"What kind of trouble?"
I asked genuinely.
I tried to ignore my anger at what she'd done, but her response struck again.
"You think you're all damn high and mighty, huh? I hate people like you."
I stood in shock from what she'd said to me.
This girl-
This stranger- believed that I was being selfish for nothing.
I guess it really was impossible to stay out of people's way.
"It wasn't my fault. And I don't have the money to fix your phone-"
"I already said you'd better fucking figure it out, because I'm not the one who ruined it."
She spoke harshly and violent, it was almost unreal.
I thought anger issues were minor.
"Listen, I'm sorry I can't help you. I don't know if you're having a bad day or something-"
She cut me off again.
"You should stop talking before you get yourself hurt."
I would've argued, but I kept my mouth shut.
She wasn't just a girl, she was much smaller than me.
I couldn't hurt her if I wanted to, so I decided to be the bigger person.
I kept her phone in my pocket.
I heard her sigh as I walked away.
I don't hate having problems.
I don't hate people who have a problem with me.
What I hate most is when people hold grudges.
I already felt like I was drowning in the amount of people who disapprove of my every breath.
Just make it through the quarter, then leave.
Just like always.
Then you can leave.
