POV Isolde
Mother is awfully quiet, she normally always has something to say even if it's nonverbal. I look at King Avier out of the corner of my eye, his brows are slightly furrowed and he's sitting incredibly still almost tense.
I move my eyes slightly to the right to look at Queen Feridah, her hands are gripping onto the cup like it'll run away if she lets go, her eyebrows are furrowed a worrying look in her pale blue eyes.
Avier lifts a fist to his mouth and clears his throat "The weather is marvelous today." Avier noted trying to get mother to reply. Mother stared at him for a few seconds "Indeed." She replied. Thank the goddesses the silence finally broke, now we must hope we won't say anything wrong to ruin it.
"So." Mother looked at her tea lightly stirring it. "I've noticed you've all been sending private letters." She looked up and looked me in the eye with those cold and haunting purple eyes. "From whom." She interrogated. "Well they are called 'private' for a reason aren't they." Avier joked trying to lighten the mood. "Mine was to my general about the hoards of monsters who keep trying to break the city walls." He exclaimed. Mother looked at Feridah. "Mine was to my secretary about the administration of the royal family, it has been really busy I needed some help," Feridah added. Mother looked my way again, "Mine was to the Prince you suggested I should court." I blurted out.
Mother thoroughly examined all of our faces. every little detail. Her cold eyes not even missing the smallest detail. Her brows furrowed and a grimace appeared on her lips. Her eyes narrowed to give me a displeased glare.
"Don't lie." She snarled.
I felt everything go fuzzy, my eyes widening, breathing heavier, I quickly looked at Avier he was looking at the clock behind me.
I heard the clock strike.
We made it.
Guards came rushing in. Mother tried using her magic to stop them but she couldn't, not after what we put on her spoon. The guards grabbed her arms putting them behind her back. Mother was trying to get out of their grip, shouting and demanding to be let go. "LET ME GO THIS INSTANT I AM YOUR QUEEN, I AM EVERYONE'S QUEEN, I AM THE MOST POWERFUL BEING! YOU SHOULD BE BOWING BEFORE ME, YOU PEASANTS!" But her demands fell on deaf ears.
We were walking along the corridors of the castle, Mother still hasn't ceased her yelling. Should I feel guilty even after all she did? She looked so weak, so frail, so... Small.
We finally got to the painting.
A guard stood in front of me bowing "Your highness we need your help." "Oh yes, of course, my apologies." I walked towards the painting, the soon-to-be prison for my 'dear' mother.
King Avier is on the right side of the painting already taking a good stance for when he needs to start the spell. Queen Feridah is on the left of the painting trying to figure out what stance to take for the spell.
My mother is standing before the painting, she already has an idea of what is going to happen.
And me standing in front of the one and only Queen Alarica. She looked me in the eyes, her eyes that were normally cold and judgmental, now filled with burning hatred towards me. I couldn't take looking at her piercing gaze anymore and averted my eyes. She scoffed. The rest all went by like a big blur I can't seem to remember how the spell went. The only thing that got through was my mother's voice,
"Pathetic."
I'm not sure if that was directed towards me or herself.
I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked up to see who the hand belonged to. It's King Avier, he looked tired and gave me a gentle smile. "It's over now, it'll be okay, you can ask me and Queen Feridah for help anytime." He hugged me and lead me to the garden, probably to get a breath of fresh air.
He gave me another smile and a reassuring pat on the back.
"I'll be looking forward to how you rule, until next time... Your highness." He walked away but before going through the gate he gave me another smile and waved.
I gave him an unsure wave back.
"Until next time."
