Gilberts POV

My dad isn't well. I hate leaving him at home all day but he wants me to go to school. It's my first day back. I'm a bit nervous for all the questions but I just have to get through the day.

As I am walking to school I hear someone talking, I think it's Billy, he used to be my friend but he's really just not nice. I follow the voice and see him standing in front of a girl, she has red hair, I don't know her so she must be new.

"Hey Billy," I start talking to him and he gets a little nervous and leaves the girl alone. "You're welcome." I yell as she walks off, "hey what's your name, miss?" I keep following her all the way to school. I open the door for her and everyone looks at us. But the only person I see is y/n. I have had a crush on her for years, but her parents wouldn't let her talk to me. She's looking at me now and she looks stunning, in a light purple dress. We continue looking at each other until Josie yells at her. Josie isn't very nice, she's loyal to Ruby.

"Hey, why were you walking with the orphan girl?" One of the boys say, but I'm not paying attention. Y/n looks so different than when I last saw her.

"Wow," is all I whisper confusing all the boys. That's when we hear y/n yelling, I've never seen her stand up for herself like that, she's so awesome. Then she storms out, I get up to follow her but Mr. Phillips walks in and class begins. A couple minutes later Billy walks in, holding y/n's hand. She looks uncomfortable. She's supposed to sit next to Ruby but Josie is there, none of the girls will talk to her, but the redhead, she moves her stuff and taps the seat next to her. Y/n hesitates looking at Ruby. But eventually she sits and starts reading.

I don't pay attention to the lesson, I keep looking at her y/h/c hair flowing over her shoulder. That's when Mr. Phillips asks Anne, the new girl, to read a paragraph, she starts performing to the class, very dramatic, she's dedicated. When she stops everyone laughs, except me and y/n, I don't think y/n was really listening, she seems to be drawing in her book, she's so talented.

It's lunch break now, and everyone is asking me about my dad. I don't want to talk about him. Then I see y/n and Anne sitting by the stream. I walk over to them and Anne tenses up, y/n smiles at me but I can see she doesn't want to talk.

Anne tells me to go away and says she can't talk to me and y/n just nods. This probably has something to do with Ruby. I turn around and see all the girls looking through the window. Oh. I walk away and sit near a tree just looking at the sky.

Back in class, I go up to Anne and y/n's desk and put an apple on the side, I go back to my seat and Anne throws the apple back at me. It's on. I walk back over to her, looking at y/n the whole time, she hasn't noticed. I pull Anne's hair and call her carrots.

"IM NOT TALKING TO YOU!" she yells hitting me over the head with her chalkboard. That got y/n's attention.

"You just did." I say back to Anne. She is then called to the front of the class and has to stand there for the rest of the lesson. Y/n looks mad at me, I feel bad for what I did to Anne so I try to apologise but Mr. Phillips says it was her fault. It wasn't.

After school I go apologise to Anne but she just walks away. She will be mad at me for a while now.
