Chapter Song: You're My Best Friend, Queen

Drinking is always fun when you're with your best friends. But, drinking is terrible when you do it to drown your sorrows. Ally and I had passed out on her bed, we were both extremely tired from dancing and drinking way too much tequila. Ally fell asleep first, but even in my drunken state I couldn't find a peaceful slumber. My mind was racked with thoughts of my future. Usually college kids thought like that, but I was well past college age and still had no clue what I wanted to do. I liked to cook, but I don't think I could make a good career out of that. People probably wouldn't rush to eat my food just because I use sour cream instead of milk to make boxed mac-and-cheese.

The thought of food caused my stomach to churn in a bad way. Greasy Chinese take-out and half a bottle of tequila was a bad mix. Rolling off of the bed and onto the floor, I quickly crawled my way into the attached bathroom of Ally's room and hurled into the toilet.

"You're not dying are you?" Ally mumbled from the bedroom.

"Screw-" I was interrupted by another wave of nausea that caused me to gag. "You!" I finished yelling, then spat into the toilet bowl and flushed it. I stumbled my way over to the sink and rinsed my mouth out about four times before stealing some of Ally's mouthwash. I swished the extremely minty, blue-green liquid around in my mouth, trying my best to ignore the hellfire burning it caused. Spitting it out in the sink, I looked up and screamed at my reflection.

"What the hell!?" Ally exclaimed, covering her ears that were sensitive from her hangover.

"I look like the crypt keeper!" I whined, dragging my fingers down my face. My black eyeliner had smeared all around and my foundation was starting to rub off, I'm pretty sure some of it got on Ally's pillows.

"Isn't that a Freaky Friday quote?" Ally asked, sitting upright on her bed and tossing her light blonde hair up into a ponytail.

"It applies right now!" I snapped, running a wash cloth under some warm water and scrubbing at my raccoon eyes. As I rubbed away the last bit of my makeup, Ally came in with a change of clothes for me.

"Here, you shower and change, and I'll go make coffee." She plopped the small stack of clothes on the closed lid of the toilet seat and walked back out into her bedroom. I sighed and stripped off my torn up jeans, rainbow socks, Black Sabbath t-shirt, and my underwear. I didn't bother closing the door, because I knew it was just Ally and I. The hot water felt good on my skin and I stayed under the spray, washing my hair with flowery smelling shampoo.

It felt nice showering after a long bus ride all the way down from my home city, Winchester, and after a long night of dancing and drinking. I quickly scrubbed down my body and turned off the hot water. I shook a towel through my damp, chocolate colored hair and wrapped it around my body. My skin almost a bright pink from the scorching water. The smell of coffee wafted through the apartment, and I totally ignored the stack of clothes and walked straight into the living room.

"Two sugars, you remember how I like it." I called toward the kitchen and grabbed my phone from the coffee table. The time read 8:00am, and I had six messages from my mom and a missed call from my dad. I didn't bother answering them, I'd get around to all that later.

"How do you like it, exactly?" I froze, looking down at my phone, when I heard cupcake's honeyed voice. I looked over at the breakfast bar and saw him sitting on one of the stools, smiling over the rim of a coffee mug. I suddenly remembered that I was half naked and felt a blush tinge my flushed skin even pinker. I pushed the embarrassment back and stood there with my hand on my hip, the other holding the towel closed.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked, glaring at his smug expression.

"He always comes over to steal coffee or food, even when I'm not here." Ally explained, pouring some of the dark brown nectar into a red ceramic mug.

"That's breaking and entering, you know. It's illegal in all states." I snapped. He simply snickered and shook his head in amusement. I rolled my eyes and turned on my heel to go back into the bathroom. I closed the door this time and quickly changed back into my bra, and the grey t-shirt and sweatpants Ally had loaned me. I used her hairbrush to get the rats-nest out of my hair, and I used her deodorant as well. I felt like I should pay her for letting me sleep here and use her stuff. But, I cringed when I remembered that I couldn't really afford to spend money willy-nilly. I decided that now was as good a time as any to tell her what happened to me. I marched my way back into the living room and snapped my fingers at Colin/cupcake.

"You. Out." I said, pointing to the door. He gave me a raised-eyebrow look and snorted before turning back to his cup of coffee. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest in annoyance. "Hey, Ally. I just started my period, can I borrow a tampon?" I lied and almost laughed out loud as Colin shot up from the stool.

"And I'm gone. Have a nice day ladies." He called as he practically raced for the door. When it slammed shut behind him, Ally and I both let out a fit of giggles.

"Ok, so what did you really want to talk about?" Ally asked, calming down from the laughter. I sighed and went over to the breakfast bar and took Colin's seat.

"I need help, bad." I moaned, resting my head into my palms.

"What's wrong?" She asked in concern, and pushed a mug of coffee towards me. I wrapped my hand around the warm handle and took a sip. Two sugars, exactly how I like it.

"I got fired, my boss said I was a 'hard worker', but apparently cuts needed to be made." I sighed and laid my forehead on the counter. I felt like curling into a ball and crying. Maybe I actually did start my period.

"Ah, I can relate to that. So, what are you gonna do?" Ally questioned, leaning against the counter with her mug clasped in her hands.

"I don't know, I got kicked out of my apartment. But, I sure as hell won't move back in with mom and dad. All my stuff's been shipped down to a storage unit here in Boston. I have a few days to go and pick up my stuff before they claim it." I explained. That was one of the main reasons I was down here, I figured I could sell some of my old stuff to make a little cash.

"You could live here if you want." Ally said casually. I lifted my head up from the counter in shock, I was fairly certain that there was a big red mark on my forehead.

"Really?" I asked, not sure if she actually meant it.

"Of course! You're my best friend, and I've been where you are, so I get it. Just clean up and maybe cook once in awhile, that can be your rent." She laughed, taking my hand in hers and squeezing them affectionately.

"Thank you so much, Ally! You have no idea how much this means to me." I blubbered, feeling my heart almost explode with happiness. I ran around the counter and gave her a big bear hug, feeling thankful for having such a good friend.
