maybe an hour of small chit-chat and small jokes to lighten the mood, y/n was feeling way better about everything. they had realized that it was going to be okay, they were just going to go out there and continue having fun. they didn't want to let this bother them, as they never really had to actually speak to the man that had caused them so much pain years ago. they figured they'd just make the best out of the situation and used the knowledge of the man being there as extra fuel and motivation to keep them going all night. entering the new year as a confident and powerful version of themselves. they began to feel much more unbothered by the situation as they understood that they just have to not let everything of the past come up to bother them.

a smile grew on y/n face as they looked up at the two, who were both laughing at a joke they had made moments before. "how you feeling, y/n, you ready to go back out there?" ash asked, him noticing this growing confidence in y/n. "i'm ready. to be completely honest, i think i feel ten times better than i did before." they said as they got up off out of their position on the floor to look at themself in the mirror, fixing up their hair and adjusting their outfit. "that's what i like to hear! let's go dance, it's about to be midnight!" niki said, standing up alongside
y/n looking at both of them in the mirror.
y/n swung open the door as they were the first to exit, being followed by niki and ash as he switched the light off in the room while leaving. y/n felt as though there was nothing that could break them with their new-found motivation. the two friends knew exactly which side of y/n they were about to experience, ash especially as he was closer to them in college. y/n would walk into every room, every party, the exact same way as they did down the stairs and to the living room where the crowd of people stood and danced. ash admired that from them, how they always would walk into everywhere with this same level of confidence and the feelings of nothing being able to stop them. it was a powerful mindset to own and have for their self-esteem, like they owned the place. niki also knew that this was also part of the effects of a little alcohol in their system as well, but as long as they weren't doing anything harmful, it was nice.

being met with those same bass vibrations on the floor as before, y/n turned to smile back at the other two, pulling them both into the crowd to dance alongside them. during this, george had spotted y/n as well, quickly heading over to them in slight concern. "y/n! where'd you go? you good?" the brunette asked, earning a nod from y/n. "yeah i'm all good. how much longer until midnight?" they asked as they motioned towards george's phone in his hand. clicking the side button to light up the screen, george read the time at the top, "about three minutes! you came back just on time!" he said, happy to see they were back.
the previous song fading as a new one came on, y/n knew this one, it was just the right amount of time in length until the countdown would most likely begin. they all began to sing and dance again, living in the moment once more, and letting the song take control over their body movements. it almost felt like a scene from a movie, this being the slow-motion scene where they all danced and let everything loose. it felt great, being able to let go and feel free, being able to simply breathe. the multi-colored light projector set up in the corners, moved all throughout the walls and ceiling. it felt like a dream, watching as the lights circled each other and occasionally grazed along their faces. it was pretty, all the colors mixing together and forming a slight pinkish-purple hue that filled the room.

niki had left to go get all four of them a drink as the song was coming to an end shortly. it was exciting, the almost adrenaline-like feeling waiting for the new year to begin.
y/n couldn't fully describe it, it wasn't nervous or worried, but they were just ready for a fresh-feeling start to the next twelve months. niki arrived back to them shortly, handing them all each a cup. they all clinked their plastic cups together and took a swig, the familiar burning sensation they all felt once again, all slightly wincing. hey all looked back at each other and laughed at their unison with each other.
