Chapter 8

ALEX'S POV:)

It was the next day. I was at my house in Maddy's room with her. "Why did he do it?" I said putting her neck up to get a better look at the bruise on her neck. Nate did it to her at the carnival. "He was mad because I embarrassed his family and called his mom a cunt." She responded. I shook my head. Maddy was on the verge of tears, so I pulled her into my embrace.

"God I'm going to kill him." I whisper. She sobs into my shoulder as I rub her back. "Are you going to break up with Nate?" I say pulling her up from her arms so I could see her face. She just shrugs and wipes her nose with her hand.

"Okay, but are you going to go to school?" I say trying to be as caring as I can. I was mad but sad at the same time. I wasn't there to help...

"Yeah, I'm still going. You're going to be late you should start going." She says with a slight smile. "But I want to be here with you." I spoke.

Maddy smiles again and shakes her head. "I'll be fine! Go before mom gets mad at you again." She says. I sigh and nod. "Call me please if anything happens. I love you." I say pulling her into another hug. She nods and waves me off. I grab my stuff and head out the door.

I arrive at school and I'm by my locker with Andrew. I was trying to find Ash, but I couldn't find him anywhere. "So about us hanging out. Want to go to the park after school?" He says leaning on one of the lockers holding his backpack in one hand.

"I can't. I'm sorry, I have stuff going on at home I need to take care of but what about on Friday?" I say shutting my locker and turn to him.

"Yeah sure! I hope you get your family stuff handled." He says walking away. I walk the opposite way and see Ashtray by his locker. He looks angry kind of. I walk up to him and say hi. He slams his locker shut making me flinch a little.

"Are you okay?" I say with a head tilt. His face softened for a second but went back to being angry.

"Fine." He says blankly walking behind me. I turn and follow him. "What's wrong? Are you mad at me?" I say walking in front of him to stop him from walking which worked.

"No." He says crossing his arms.

"Okay? Then what's wrong?" I say confusion plastered on my face. He sighs and looks down. "Nothing. It's not like you'd care anyways." He says walking away. What?

I was going to walk up to him to ask him more questions, but the bell rang. It was second period already, I have English. I don't have this class with Ash sadly. I rush to class pushing through the crowded halls filled with teenagers.

I was now in English sitting in the back of the class. English was my favorite subject but today I wasn't really in the mood for it. I was only thinking about Ashtray. I didn't know what I did to him to make him act so cold to me.

While the teacher was explaining stuff on the board an announcement came up on the loud speakers. "ALEX DIAZ IN THE FRONT OFFICE PLEASE." It blared. I sighed and grabbed my stuff walking out the class.

I didn't know why I was getting called to the office but I'm sure it wasn't nothing bad.

When I got into the office, I seen 3 officers behind my mom and Maddy. Oh god.

"You don't understand mama, Nate didn't do it." Maddy spoke with a look of worry on her face. My mom threw up her hands and told Maddy to stop lying.

"I'm not lying!" Maddy said with a slight voice crack. I looked at the principal who looked annoyed with the 2 bickering. "Alex take a seat please." The principal said nodded towards the chair next to my mom. I nodded and sat down.
