It was a late night in Dihua Marsh, the world was silent, aside from the winds that whisked and whispered through the plains.

Even at the Wangshuu Inn, as residents rested peacefully in their rooms, quite the contrast to the inn's busy atmosphere during the day. You were one of these residents. After completing the tasks of the day you decided to rent a night somewhere comfortable rather than setting up camp. You were sound asleep, tuckered from today's adventures

That was until you heard it

A sort of whooshing sound that seemed to come from the balcony upstairs

Being a light sleeper this awoke you from your slumber, after stillness ensued once more you decided to investigate.

You peeked out of your room door before setting your sights on the stairs. Making your way up you stayed as quiet as you could as to not disturb the others. When you made it to the top and looked out to the balcony, a slender figure stood afar.

It was Xiao, the Guardian Yaksha himself

"Oh Xiao it's only you", you spoke with a hint of tiredness in your voice.

The adeptus turned back until you were in his Amber-eyed sights. "Y/n, it's quite late what are you doing up still?"

You leaned on the frame of the balcony entrance."I woke up to a sound upstairs and came to investigate", you replied.

"Oh, sorry I didn't meant to disturb you. Go back to bed, I'll keep watch here", he said.

This made you wonder of something.

"Xiao, don't you need your rest too?", you questioned. Xiao simply scoffed, "Adepti don't need sleep". You sighed, pushing off from the frame and walked until you were by his side at the balcony railing.

"Perhaps not, I may not be an adeptus nor can I fully understand what it means to be one. But if there is one thing I know from the few interactions we've had is that what you go through almost every day must be exhausting."

Xiao stayed silent but listened intently.

"The day-to-day battles, your duty to protect Liyue and..your karmic debt. It all strains on you, I can see it."

For once Xiao did not retort, he just stood there, eyes softening as he thought about what the things you just said to him. You smiled gently, slowly taking his hand. He quickly glanced at your hand in his and then to your face. "Come with me", you instructed.
The two of you walked back inside making your way down the stairs.

"W-Where are you taking me?", Xiao asked only to have silence as an answer.

Once you reached your room you guided him inside and onto your bed, laying him down and settling beside him.

"Sure perhaps Adepti do not need sleep but I'd like to think you at least need some rest.", you stated as you looked into the adeptus' eyes. "Th-This is utterly absurd! I-", before he could begin to get up to leave you swiftly wrapped your arm around his flank pulling him back to you hugging his head to your chest.

Xiao was utterly surprised and flustered to where he almost couldn't register what just happened. Heat rose up to his cheeks and ears from being so close to you.

"Xiao you've been suffering so much over the course of millennia, you carry heavy burdens and witnessed numerous friends and comrades perish to time and war." You cupped his cheeks, lifting his head for his eyes to meet your tired ones while still wearing a soft smile. "All I wish is for you to be in a moment of peace, even if it's just for once." You caressed his cheek with your thumb a you spoke.

For a moment Xiao looked down seeming to be in thought until he looked back up at you. "If that is what you wish, then..I guess I can't object to it", he hesitantly replied. Xiao settled in your embrace, arm wrapping around under yours and resting his head near your chest once more, a light blush still present on his face.

Xiao indulged the tranquil moment, the sounds of the winds outside, the gentle light of the moon that seemed to flood the room, the beating of your heart as his head rested near it and your subtle yet significant scent. His hold on you grew ever so slightly tighter, feeling his eyelids growing heavy.

"So..this is the peace they spoke of", Xiao thought to himself until eventually he drifted off. "Goodnight my guardian Yaksha", you whispered succumbing to exhaustion not too long after.

The morning sun rose above the mountain line indicating a new day. You felt yourself becoming conscious again and slowly stretched until you felt some weight on your arm and on your side.

Lifting your eyelids slowly revealed the face of the Conqueror Of Demons. His head rested slightly below yours on your arm, mouth agape and the subtle sound of his breathing could be heard as he peacefully slept. At first you were surprised but as you continued to gaze at him a small smile formed on your lips.

A low grumble erupted from him breaking you out of your thoughts. "Good morning Xiao", you cooed. He grumbled again pulling you into a firm embrace. "A few more minutes", he growled in his morning voice. You chuckled lightly at this, holding his head close to you.
