CHAPTER 1

It was dawn when he woke up, the dark blue hues still coloring the sky and the wind breeze cool as it passed through every bare surroundings.

Renjun stilled, his eyes daunted on the plain white ceiling, void of any colors, adding to the emptiness he's been holding on to for so long.

Wretched. Shattered. Vague.

The boy in silver hair collected his last remaining thoughts—disoriented and useless, as he deemed.

He can't think of anything but the poor face of his best friend—pale and lifeless—as he recollected the last memory he could find on the back of his head.

I killed him.

"Renjunnie, are you awake?", A half-joyful, half-questioning voice snapped him out of his vicious mind, followed by nostalgic rhythmic knocks and the twisting of the doorknob.

"And you're daydreaming again."

"Rayeon-ssi", Renjun acknowledged with a usual small smile—false as everybody scripts, but already totally enough for the doctor.

Renjun sat up, pressing his back on the headboard, and laid his arms out, fully aware of the daily inspection and first-based questions he encounters every morning.

Same time, same process, and the same warm smile.

"Very good, you're not hurting yourself", the doctor proudly beamed and ruffled the boy's morning hair. "I assume your sleeping schedule still didn't put you in the zone, huh? He sleeps at dusk and wakes up at dawn."

"I don't think I can fix that."

"And I don't think I can stop helping you with that", she posed while tying the single curtain in the center, letting the male view the shifting of the colors outside.

"Will you leave after this?", Renjun asked while still fixated on the sight of the open field.

"I still have rounds in the other rooms; I'm sure I can trust you this time too."

"Don't do bad things, got it", Renjun said, looking over at her with a smile.

Rayeon nodded and lightly booped the boy's nose, bidding a small see you, and walked out of the door.

Renjun sighed when he heard the click of the lock, shifting his gaze back on the now lighter color, downing the vast space, his mind creating wonders of his fantasy.

Oh, how Renjun wanted to step foot out; he needed some sunlight.

He sighed. I guess I'll wait for the weekend.

"He's not answering."

Mark groaned at what the bluette said, fishing his in-ear out and sliding on the connection. Frustration was evident on his brows, and an obvious scowl was on his face.

"Don't stress out too much, Marco; I can feel it. I don't want to have a bad day", Hana inquired through the earpiece, voice minimum but annoyance laced on her tone.

"M sorry, babe, we can't reach Dongh—fuck goodness, Lee Donghyuk! Where the fuck are you!"

Jisung can just merely curse out under his breath as Hana disconnects again, finding every needle and loophole just to get her back on the system for the nth time.

Dream and Zen ended up working together, mainly because they are basically soulmates and the boys got more protective enough from what happened 7 months ago.

As if it were only yesterday and the horrific sight of Chenle getting dragged out is still in their hindsight, they strictly grouped together and never sent out only one.

And so when Jaemin, Jeno, Donghyuck, Naih, and Hana went on the frontlines to infiltrate a gang's hideout, then Yeoreum and Aeri were on standby, and Mark took the getaway car with Jisung cooped in to work on the navigation and security.

"What do you mean you took the backdoor? I clearly said to stick on the front."

[ Easy, mister, I'm with Jeno. It's better to spread out if you have a chance. Clearly, we cleared out until the east side.]

"Whatever, just don't get hurt."

[Oh baby, you're worried!]

"I'm worried for your soulmate, you shit; the girl didn't deserve the pain of your stupid ass."

Mark just ignored the younger's retorts and tried to get back on his own soulmate, but also went wild when he could not.

"Don't look at me; your girl seemed to pull out the wires. I can't get her back", Jisung defended quickly, making the leader facepalm.

"Oh, fuck it, ask Naih, please."

"Mhm.. ohh, okay, Hana's alive with her—hey, love you alright there? Okay, okay, good."

[Yo Marco]

"JO HANA–!?"

[Chill, dude, you can go in now.]

[It's all clear; I got it.]

"How did she reconnect?", Jisung asked with wide eyes as he double-checked the wired in-ears on his system. "Did I record it wrong? It would be better if Renjun hyung is here."

The sudden mention of the name made Mark freeze. Regret poured on his body as he gulped down the negative feeling and radioed the others.
