when we met

the beginning

Intro

You're JN Stark, the daughter of Tony and Pepper. Actually your real name is Josie (short for Josephine) Nova Stark but even before you were born your parents decided to call you JN. You're 17 years old and you've lived with the other Avengers and your two cats Sam and Dean in the Avengers Tower nearly for your whole life.
But you've spent the last few years exclusively in Germany because of one of your father's missions and have now moved back to New York with your parents.
You get along well with nearly everyone, only one guy gives you trouble of any kind.
Old wounds that you thought would have healed long ago torn open again forcibly by him.
And then there's this new guy who joins the Avengers and always wears that hilarious red jumpsuit. Of course he has to look outrageously good in that.
Your emotions are taking a roller coaster ride but soon you'll have to make good and bad decisions between the people who know you like no one else... and you're going to lose one of them.

17 years ago:

You're opening your eyes. You only see blurry but after some time everything becomes clearer.
A woman with red-blonde hair and a beautiful smile is holding you in her arms. She lies in a hospital bed and a strange needle with a tube seems to disappear in her arm.
Next to her there's a slim but muscular man, wearing square glasses. His hair is dark, in which the first gray streaks can be seen, as well as in his short beard. He has beautiful eyes in which tears are sparkling.
"Hello little JN Stark.", the man with the square glasses is talking to you. He reaches his big hand out to you and your eyes widen a bit as he puts his hand on your stomach and puts a warm and secure feeling on your skin. He caresses your stomach until you reach out your little hand and put it on his. He takes your hand and strokes the back of your hand with his finger. You start playing with his hand and you just manage to enclose his index finger with your hand. He starts sobbing quietly, but it quickly turns into a soft laugh and a tear rolls out of his eye and disappears in his thick sweater.
Now the woman who is still holding you in her arms, starts crying too and talks to the man whose index finger is still in your hand.
"Tony look at her. She's so beautiful."
"Yes, she's just as beautiful as her mother."
Both look into each other's eyes for a long time until "Tony' kisses the woman on the forehead and wipes a tear from her cheek with his free hand.

Suddenly, the door to the hospital room opens and a beautiful woman with red shoulder length hair enters the room, followed by a tall blonde man in a funny suit and a red cape.
"Tony! Pepper! How is she? Is she okay? Is everything fine?" The red-haired woman fires her questions like a gun into the small room.
"Nice to see you too, Nat.", Tony says quietly in an ironic way, so you don't get scared.
"She's fine. The doctor checked her again and she's alright.", says the woman Nat called 'Pepper' earlier.
"Can I...can I hold hear?", asks a reserved deep voice from the back corner of the room. It's the man with the funny suit and the red cape.
Tony, whose finger you've been holding on all along, slips away as he steps back from Pepper's bed to make room for the blonde giant. He steps hesitantly towards the bed and looks down at you with a shy smile on his face.
"Here.", Pepper says, slowly straightening up in the bed to put you in the man's arms. Tony notices that she is having trouble sitting up and rushes to the other side of the bed to help her. "Thank you, darling."
"Of course. love.", Tony replies, kisses her on the forehead again and strokes her red-blonde hair. Nat, who has leaned against the table on the opposite of the bed, makes coughing noises in which you can clearly hear the words 'gross' and 'lovebirds'.
Tony rolls his eyes and looks at Pepper with a mischievous grin.
"I love you.", he whispers before he rises up with you on his arm and walks to the other side of the bed to put you in the arms of the stranger.
"Thor, you better make sure nothing happens to her otherwise you can voluntarily lie down in the next hospital bed and I'll drive you to the pathology myself."
"Don't worry about that, I'll protect her with my life. And when I'm gone one day, Loki..."
"I heard my name? Can I finally come in? Please??"
Thor couldn't finish his sentence because a head with black wavy hair appeared in the door frame of the room.
"Of course, come in.". Pepper allows, but Tony's face speaks for itself.
He wanted to reply, but Pepper teaches him a lesson.
"Tony, Loki is also part of our non-blood related family, so he can come in!"
"Fine." Tony falls into the chair next to Pepper's bed and folds his arms in front of his chest, looking like a little kid who didn't get his lollipop.
"Brother, look at the little JN."
Thor gives you a kiss on the forehead and you grab his beard because it tickles in your face. He chuckles, frees himself from your clamp grip and turns around with you on his arm to his brother.
"Loki, come here.", he says.
"No, no, no! Definitely not!", Loki rejects.
"Don't act like that brother."
Loki steps back, but Thor has already put you into his brother's arm.
"Thor, I really don't know..." Loki tries to justify himself so he doesn't have to carry you. His whole body is tense and it takes a while for him to relax.
After some time Pepper forces Tony to leave the chair for Loki, so he can sit down. In the meantime, he won't let his eyes off you, not even for one second. He's watching every little twitch in your fingers, every slightest movement in your face and his eyes are shining like you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

In time, Nat, Thor and Tony gathered around the chair and are watching you play with Loki's fingers. With this moment, everyone in this room has sworn to protect you forever, no matter what happens.
