Mina's P.O.V.
"Come on, come on!" exclaimed the energetic redhead. Everyone knew to get out of her way as she wasn't the most careful person.
"I'm going, I'm going! I just have to get a paragraph or two done, I swear Cecilia." I said quickly, knowing she would begin to whine if I was too slow. "It's worth so much of my grade, and you know that I want to become an anthropologist like my father. I just have to finish this paper and I promise I'll come out and watch the comet with you." I said tiredly, the almost black bags under my eyes clashed against my bronze skin. Already knowing what she would say next, I tried to prepare myself to say no.
"But the comet only happens once every 20 years! You have a whole week until that paper is due! Come on, please? For me?" She said, slowing at the end and giving me those puppy dog eyes she knew I could never say no to.
"Just five minutes, that's all it'll take. I promise!" I looked down as I spoke, knowing that the answer would be no just by the look she was giving me, as if drilling a hole into the side of my head.
"Sure. That's what you said last time when we were supposed to have a relaxation day. You ended up working the whole day and passing out at the end! I had to take you to the hospital and find out that you had passed out because of exhaustion! You hadn't even remembered to take your pills so I don't know how you focused with the hallucinations you would have been having." She yelled obnoxiously. Right, the pills that everyone in this university has to take because most of us have seen things that science cannot explain, and those who haven't seen the hallucinations have felt or heard them. This has led me to believe that perhaps they aren't hallucinations, but rather another world somehow trying to exist within ours. That probably sounds crazy, right?
"Hey! Have you even been listening to me?" Cecilia said somewhat loudly, gaining the attention of the group walking around us. I quickly pulled Cecilia into my dorm, immediately realizing that she didn't even notice the strange looks being given to us or the scrutinizing looks and whispers we were receiving.
"Sorry, I just had something on my mind. What were you saying? Don't worry you have my full attention now, promise." I say quickly.
"Well it doesn't matter now." Cecilia pouts. "You would just zone out again so what's the point of repeating it? Anyways, come on, I am not letting you lock yourself up in your dorm just to work on a project that isn't even due until next week!" Cecilia exclaimed.
"Fine. I won't work on it tonight, but that doesn't mean that I won't be working on it tomorrow night. I'm only letting you drag me to this because I want to see the comet since Professor Dae wants us to do a project on it soon." I said, backing down from starting an argument with my best friend. Letting her drag me towards the blankets laid out on the ground in front of our university. She stops suddenly and I end up bumping into her back. I follow her eyes and see that she was looking at a boy that she had a crush on for years. From what I knew anyway since I only met her when we got to the university a year ago, Hunter was his name. "Something caught your eye?" I say smirking. "Or rather someone?"
"Oh will you shush!" she yells, turning crimson red. I felt a pang in my heart at that. I'm not sure why, but it almost feels like I'm jealous, I'm not the best with my emotions. Although other people's emotions are relatively easy. Hunter was what most would consider one of the popular people. He had obsidian colored hair with hazel eyes, giving him a sense of mystery. I don't know how Cecilia and him met, but my gut tells me not to trust him and Aunt Mara always said to trust my gut.
"So are we going to get going to watch the comet or are we going to just stand here so you can look at your crush?" I say slyly. She turns an even darker shade of red.
"Right! Come on, let's get going," she pauses to take one last look at Hunter, who was currently with his girlfriend. She started to develop a despair-like aura around her when she noticed her. Portia, a beautiful girl that can get any guy she wanted if she tried. She had beautiful black hair reaching down to her waist with bright green eyes. Her features were defined and almost pointy. She had defined cheekbones with a small button nose, plump lips that seemed to always be pursed as if she was constantly judging everyone.
"Come on, I heard that something really special is supposed to happen with this comet. You remember the legend right?" I say, trying to change the topic to make her happier. "Plus, he's a boy and we all know they suck." Smiling lightly and giggling at her.
"You're right! I shouldn't be sad just because he's with someone else, I should be glad because I don't have to deal with a stinky boy!" She finished childishly. I laugh at the pout of victory on her face and she begins to laugh as well.
"Well? Shall we go watch that comet like you've been saying for the past ten minutes?" I say, bowing as if I was a butler and extending my hand towards her. She giggles and takes my hand delicately, as if she were a princess.
"We shall."
