Chubby throws in a red chip, Chip grins and raises his eyebrows matching her bet.

Sash folds immediately - maybe her hand wasn't that great after all.

Now it was my turn, I up the stakes, two red chips. Come on...I need this!

A glimmer of expression passes over Rainbow's face, the corner of their mouth hinted upwards as they add in two red chips.

Chubby frowns, but matches their bet.

Chip finally folds, now I only have to get through Chubby and Rainbow.

"Go big or go home, I guess." I mutter and shove my chips into the pile, they fall clattering onto the velvet lining.

"I fold." Rainbow mutters, their lips set in a straight line. Chubby grins,

"Ahah! I knew you were bluffing, you have a serious tell. Colonel.I Show No Emotion, hah!" Chubby laughs, Rainbow glares at her irritably.

When she finally stops she turns to me with a devilish glint in her eye.

"Hm, might as well. All in."

Chubby shoves her chips with a quick push, they recklessly fall into the pile.

"Call." She announces.

She reveals her first two cards, with a quick flick, dramatically laying them out on the cloth. The other King Pair.

Shit.

"Beat that kid." Sash nods.

I take a deep breath and pinch my Kings, slamming them onto the table.

"Whaaaaat?" Jaza exclaims their English accent seeping into their voice, mouth hanging open.

Chubby furrows her brows, jaw clenched as Sash looks at the cards in surprise, I could even see a small flash of unexpectancy on Rainbow's face.

"Fine...beat this." Chubby hisses, pushing forward two nines.

I smile excitedly - I had won! Against that goofy angel too!

There were no more kings in the game, Chubby had two I had two - there couldn't be any left, there are only four kings in a pack of 52 playing cards.(Not counting jokers )

Even if she also had a full house, she would have to possess three nines, and my tens beat them...

Yes!

"Done." I smirk, laying my ten pairs.

"No fucking way..." Chubby gasps, her eyes dart from her cards to mine.

She leans back and groans, tossing her last card on the table.

A nine.

I jump from my chair and smack my ten on the table.

"I win!"

Chubby scoffs sourly, sulking at her loss. Chip looks curiously at my cards, while Jaza and Sash congratulate me.

"That's pretty impressive, kid." Sash acknowledges, rising from her seat to pat me on the back.

"You can have a free drink from me for that!" Jaza cheers, leaning towards me.

I pull in my winnings, the chips turning over one another when I gather them in my arms.

Rainbow on the other hand stands to collect everyone's cards, before I could add the queen and three they snatch my cards.

No! I feel the sharp edge of the cards under my leg, maybe I could slip them into the pack later, I'd put them up my sleeve and-

"Gimme the cards, Rainbow." Chubby snaps, still furious at her loss.

She begins to shuffle the cards roughly before Chip holds out a hand to stop her.,

"Suck it up, Briar. Count the cards."

I gulp, Chip looks me dead in the eye knowingly.

He knew, but how?!

Chubby sighs and starts to count every card out loud, laying them onto the red felt that's lined into the table.

"1,2,3...."

"No wait!" I yell quickly. She stops with a confused look as do Sash, Jaza and Chip.

"Don't the er, famous five flowers not trust themselves with simple cards in their casino?"

"Oh no, we trust one another. It's you we don't trust." Chip grins crookedly, his cheery, playful exterior gone.

"Can't you accept the fact that you've lost!" I argue, but I'm interrupted by Chubby who has started counting again.

My stomach fluttered at each count, each time she placed a card down - she was calculating nearer and nearer to my doom.

I had cheated and challenged top-end casinos, bested their most skilled players and risen to the top.

It had made so much sense to challenge Everfall's Casino, after all, if such prestigious casinos fell for my simple

tricks why shouldn't they?

"50." Chubby hisses, laying the last card down. Sash and Jaza whirl angrily to me, Rainbow's mouth twitches.

"Get up!" Sash yells, she and Jaza yank me up, the three and Queen flutter down to the floor.

Rainbow hurriedly picks them up, presenting them to Chip.

He stares at them, swirls of emotion buried in his eyes but one seems to stand out.

Anger.

He looks up at me, his gaze cold like a harsh blizzard, I can feel my legs shake beneath me as he slowly marches towards us every second I feel to be closer to death itself. He finally stops in front of me in pure rage, yet his face remains with a calm yet stern look.

"Sash, my office now I think we need to have a nice, long talk about her." Chip says practically spitting the words through his teeth.

What have I done?
