"Are you sure it is okay? I really wouldn't be asking this, but Shinji can't stay home." Yui said with a worried face as she bit her nails and looked at Shinji, who was sitting on the floor due to her mom's orders. She stayed quiet for a second listening to what the other person said through the phone. She made a relieved expression now. "Ah! That's awesome! Well, it's not cool that Kaworu has it too, but at least they'll get to be together." Shinji looked up from his lap after hearing that and tried to get closer to hear more, but his mom backed away from him, so he returned to his original spot. "Yeah, I'll send you his medicine and some things for you and Kaji. I appreciate this, Misato."
After that, Shinji stopped paying attention and pulled his phone out to text his best friend about what just happened. Turns out, Kaworu and Shinji had gotten covid after hanging around with a girl from their school who also had it. It wasn't a problem for none of them to spend ten days together, they had gone out on family vacations with each other and did a lot of sleepovers together, if anything, they were excited to spend all day playing video games and hanging around each other.
Kaworu only confirmed what his mom said through the phone, so Shinji went up to his room (being careful not to touch anything else, as his mom said) and started packing the essentials for those ten days of quarantine. He didn't take too long, mostly because his mom was telling him that his grandparents would be there soon and she still needed to disinfect the house, so he went downstairs and told his mom he was walking to Kaworu's now since she probably wouldn't even want to drive him there. He said goodbye to his dad and his sister and asked them to say hi to his grandparents from him, to which they said they would.
Shinji made sure to put on a face mask before leaving his house and maintained himself far from the people that were also walking in the streets. After about ten minutes, he reached Kaworu's house, so he texted him saying he was outside, to which he answered come in.
He opened the door and went straight into Kaworu's room, he figured neither Misato nor Kaji would be there since their cars weren't in the yard. He opened the door and saw Kaworu playing with his new Nintendo Switch on his bed when he heard the door open, he looked up and got up from his bed when he saw it was his best friend.
DAY ONE.
"How are you feeling?" Kaworu asked as he hugged Shinji, patting his back.
Shinji hugged him back. "I'm fine, just a bit tired. What about you?"
They separated and Kaworu went back to his bed while Shinji left his bags and other stuff on the floor, except his pillow, he left that on the bed. "I'm feeling good, to be honest. What if I don't have it?"
Shinji rolled his eyes and sat next to Kaworu, watching his game of Super Smash Bros. "Of course you have it, your test came out positive too. Besides, weren't you feeling bad yesterday?"
He shrugged. "I still can not have it. But it's not like I'm not going to quarantine, you're stuck with me for these ten days."
Shinji let out a nervous laugh and focused on the game. "Yeah, I guess so."
After watching him play for a few more minutes, he proposed the idea of connecting the Switch to the tv, that way, both of them could play. Kaworu listened and did so. So for their first day, they mostly played video games. A few hours later, a pizza was delivered to Kaworu's room by Kaji, who also left plates and napkins. After they ate, they went back to the tv, now playing Mario Kart. Surprisingly, none of them got tired of it so they played (different games) until it was nighttime.
More food was given to them, now being some pasta with salad, which they ate quickly. Neither of them was tired. Those ten days were practically vacations for them; no school, no work, no family. Only hanging around all day with their best friend.
