Author's note : This is a working cover before posting the actual cover of the story. This is my first ever story here and I really hope you all like it. Thank you everybody for giving me your time and let's hop on the train for the journey.
As the first rays of sun fell on her face, Jennifer pulled the blankets over her face. Though she wasn't at all sleeping, she felt laying there for one more hour would comfort her. But even after pulling the blankets up to her face didn't do her any good. The sun seemed adamant to take Jennifer out of her dirty bed. She hadn't cleaned it for nearly 3 months now. She wondered in awe - had the Sun always been so unproblematic? No break ups, no relations, special moments nothing at all. Always so punctual, prim and proper. Jennifer thought about him - Charles. How could he do so? How could he break up with her even after after 4 years of relationship? No, it wasn't actually happening right? It can't, they couldn't be broken up. All those beautiful memories wrapped in the golden lines of memories & silver nets protecting them from any harm. No, he couldn't be be gone. He might be taking a break - a small holiday kind of thing. But whatever she said to console herself, she knew it was all over. All her memories, everything was lost - even Charles. She drifted her mind towards the other issues she was currently facing. But she just couldn't take him out of her mind. He was stuck there, never to come out again. Even 3 months before, she had been so happy with him - each day flourished with a new memory. Now, there was no one to make new memories with her; after all he was gone from her life.
The memory of their breakup wasn't even pleasant. He simply left a note to to her. It read - " I'm leaving Jen. I want to break up with you. You & I were never really a good match. And I never really felt the love among us, now that I'm leaving it's better to let you know.
Your one and only, Charles"
When she read that letter, an empty dizziness spread through her body and mind, making her totally numb to give any reaction to this. She opened her phone, called her bestie Katnis, told her about their breakup and then disconnected the call. She pulled opened the back cover of her phone, took out the battery and threw the partly dismantled pieces on the bed. She slept like she hadn't for a few days. After a few days, she started realizing how empty her life had become. She couldn't even imagine her life without him and now she couldn't but spend her nights in complete loneliness.
She drifted all these thoughts away and got up from her untidy bed to make herself some coffee. As she rose from the bed, a memory flourished in her mind. She had been asleep for long that day. As she was asleep, Charly kissed her ear and nuzzled her neck to wake her up. "Morning darling. Won't you go to college? We will get late."
"No, I don't feel like going today. Why don't we just stay at home today? It's been a really long time since we spent some time together."
"Oh no baby, I'm making a strong cup of coffee for you. Get ready and we'll go together" Charles chuckled. With these words, he gave her a soft kiss and went for the kitchen. But this memory seemed to be a distant past now. All she now had was all the sorrow in her life. She made herself a steaming hot cup of coffee and sat on her bed, staring straight through the window. She saw her neighbor pruning the roses, the street dogs making incessant noises and the cars passing by, making an inappropriate amount of sound on the usually quiet road. As she took a sip, she heard the bell ring after an interval of so many days. She wondered who it might be. But whoever it was, she decided not to open the door. The person abandoned the bell and started thumping on the front door as if trying to break in, if the door was not opened. Getting irritated, she dragged her feet towards the door.
Opening the door, she found Katnis standing at her doorstep with a weird look on her face. Before Jennifer could even say as much as a word, Katnis started talking in lightning speed, " what's the matter? Why haven't you been picking up my calls? Are you alright? Are you well? How are you coping with evry thing? Don't just stand there, answer me." Jennifer was caught stunned by the rush of sudden questions pouring down on her but she was happy to see her friend, nonetheless. "Come in and I'll tell you everything." Kat had been her best friend for a long period of 15 years. She understood her completely; knew when to say what and when to let silence take the lead. Presently, she came inside and sat on her untidy bed and said " You are such a freak! Since how long have you not cleaned your house? Jen, you are not the only one facing a break up. Just forget about that arse. He's no of no use, that son of a bitch! "
"Maybe he is. But I just can't forget him so easily. My love isn't a two day wonder and you know that Kat, don't you? "
Kat nodded with a frown on her beautiful face. "Then tell me, if you are not gonna try to forget him, what are you gonna do? You just can't waste your whole life, focusing on him. You gotta move on girl. "
"Currently I can't because I haven't forgotten him yet. Just let it go now. Why are you here so early? " A smile spread on Katnis's face. " I'm taking you to college after making you presentable." Jennifer bit her lips. She just wasn't ready to go out in the world and start socializing again. There would be a lot of questions about her sudden disappearance. Just the thought of it made her stay in her house forever.
"I don't want to. It's where we met and everything started"
"Ya, but better luck next time. Go get ready and if I find some funny business, woe betide you!" She nearly screamed the last words. Jennifer didn't dare contradict her and went towards the bathroom without a word. Locking the door and undressing, she stood under the cold shower to wash out his many memories now swirling through her mind but in vain. Sighing, she turned the water off and wrapped a towel around her while coming out. Meanwhile, Kat has found a matching white crop top and black ripped jeans after rummaging for a while in her closet. Jennifer went to her room, put the clothes on, applied a little makeup and adjusted her blonde strawberry curls.
"Perfect to give the boys a tickle" said Katnis with a grin and Jennifer rolled her eyes. Jen gave one last scornful look over her house, sighing and locked the door. As they started walking towards their destination, she hoped that everything would just go fine in college and she won't have to fave any awkward questions. But what she couldn't realize was that her life was going to change from that day onwards. Both the friends moved towards the metro station.
