115. to keep you off my mind

Start from the beginning

"No." James shakes his head.

"Why not?" Maria asks, looking rather offended.

"Because you'll pick something stupid!"

"Can we stop saying stupid?" Lily groans and James simply folds his arms and huffs, sinking down into the sofa sulkily. "Stop being such a child, Maria would pick an excellent name."

"I like Harry." Maria wonders aloud, her voice distant in thought and Lily looks at James with raised eyebrows but the Potter simply shakes his head.

"I'm not naming my son Harry."

"Why not?!"

"Because. . ." James scoffs slightly, sinking even further into his seat.

"He likes it, he's just too stubborn to admit it because he said your suggestion would be stupid." Lily explains, raising an eyebrow at James who sighs and leans his head on her shoulder making the red head roll her eyes. "Have you heard anything from him?"

Maria's expression noticeably drops from a taunting smile at her brother to a small frown with her full lips slightly parted as her brown eyes flicker towards Lily. She finds herself thinking about him, about where he is, how much shit he's gotten himself into. It's a long list of the bad decisions he will have made since leaving the Potter Manor that January evening.

"Um, no." Maria clears her throat, shaking her head softly and James' eyes soften when he sees her avert her gaze onto the rug.

Honestly, James was waiting for Regulus and Maria to get married. Not to suddenly break up, he and the others where in shock when they got a phone call from Maria saying that she and Regulus had a row and she had broke up with him.

None of them expected that.

"Mar, you need to get out." Mary McDonald sighs, strolling into the empty apartment and seeing Maria sat at the small, circular table writing some essays for her last auror training review. "You've been cooped up in here for decades! The only places you go are your house and Lily's. Come out with me and Gideon tonight—he can bring Fabian."

Maria looks at Mary who gives her a pointed look and the Potter girl sighs, "I don't know, Mary. I've got a lot of stuff to do for this review thing."

Mary rolls her eyes slightly, "you can miss one night. Come on!" Mary grabs her hands and drags her out of the seat making Maria groan but allow herself to be yanked to the spare room with Mary. "Okay. Lets see. This will do." Mary smiles, taking a dark green fitted dress with a v-neckline and a large gape in the back off it, off of a hanger.

"Where exactly are you planning on taking me?" Maria questions, raising an eyebrow at Mary who is already dressed in a dark pink, fitted, sequinned dress with some black heels and the dark skinned girl smiles.

"Just this place, me and Gideon found it on a night out." Mary shrugs her shoulders, adjusting the pink headband that's keeping most of her wild curls out of her face. "It'll be fun."

Maria sighs, gripping the ends of her top and shrugging it over her head as Mary sits at the vanity desk and applies some fresh eyeshadow. Her eyes travel to Maria in the mirror who has her back to the girl as she unclasps her bra and shrugs on the green dress.

Mary quickly averts her gaze back to her own eyes as she brushes the glittery shadow onto her eyelid. Maria sighs as she clips on some jewellery.

After about an hour of laughing and getting ready, the two girls are strolling down a busy street in London, their heels clacking on the cobblestone as they step. Maria spits the heads of messy red hair sticking out tall in the crowds of people, bustling to get into the clubs late this Friday night.
