Three knocks, wait, one knock. That was your routine. With death eaters circling under the radar, you and Remus had created a knock routine that only you knew. You stood patiently outside your safe house, damp from the previous downpour and the coolness of the early morning.

You picked up on the sound of footsteps inside the house, Remus, despite his tall, large frame, stepped very lightly, something he had to get used to sneaking around Hogwarts during full moons. But you knew the way he stepped, which frames in the floorboard creaked, and just as you predicted the door opened.

A slight gasp left your lips, it had been a full twenty four hours since you and Remus had last seen each other. In those twenty four hours, the two of you lost almost every friend you ever knew. Lily and James were publicly announced dead, as well as Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black was already in his new cell in Azkaban, and you and Remus were now the only people you each have left.

In a swift movement, Remus reached out and wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, his head buried in the crook of your neck. You relaxed into him, your body finally finding a sense of peace. Your heart broke at the shaking inhale Remus took, and the tear that fell onto your shoulder at his exhale. You moved to thread your fingers through his hair, comforting him in the softest way possible.

It was the first time Remus had cried the entire day. It hurt to see him so broken in the release of his emotions, but the fact that he trusted you enough to let you see him that way; vulnerable, never failed to make your heart flutter. You had been crying all day, your cheeks were stained with the remnants of your tears, meanwhile his were just beginning.

You held him in the doorway of your safehouse, swaying lightly, rocking the two of you back and forth. Remus grew exhausted of his tears, resting his head on your shoulder above a tear stained circle on your sleeve.

"Hey," You spoke up softly, brushing your hand over his hair, "Let's go in, yeah?"

Remus nodded lightly as he began shuffling backwards with you still in his arms. In all the trauma and heartache of the previous twenty four hours, Remus had managed to make you genuinely laugh.

Your laughter continued as did Remus' actions, trying to shuffle the two of you towards the couch that was behind him, not to mention he hadn't managed to shut the front door yet.

"There are easier ways to do this, my love." You chuckled as you slid along the floor in your sock clad feet, having discarded your boots at the door.

"Yeah, but if I did it any other way I wouldn't have been able to hear your laugh." Remus shrugged, the most sincere grin on his face as he watched you.

You inhaled slowly, your eyes lazily connecting with his as you began to admire him. You had realized in that moment it was a moment you never wanted to leave, the heartache and pain of course, but even if the world were crashing around you, and it sure felt like it did, being with Remus was all you needed.

As if he read your mind, Remus dipped down to catch your lips with his. You exhaled as your body relaxed into his hold, your back arching as you leaned into him. Remus inhaled and kissed you harder, dragging out a soft whine from your lips.

Remus pulled apart to tug you towards him as he stepped back, he swiftly shut the front door before he pinned you lightly to the wall behind you. Your back was curving the minute his lips were on yours again, and you found yourself gasping as you felt his large hands splaying out across your back. You pulled back as you felt the air leave your lungs, Remus moved instantly to kiss along your jawline, his fingertips drawing circles on your bare back underneath your top.

"I missed you." You exhaled.

Remus moved to kiss your lips softly at your confession, it was a much gentler kiss than the previous ones, but somehow it felt the most passionate.

"I love you." He mumbled against your lips, ""M never leaving your side again."

You sighed aloud, a soft smile on your lips as you mumbled, "Fine with me."
