Chapter 14 | A New Bromance? More Like a New Romance

Start from the beginning

"Well earlier I saw Toko go into Makoto's room. She basically pushed herself inside once he opened the door." I say.

Naomi's face changes to a serious one.

"Do you think something bad happened?" She asked.

I paused. "I didn't think so at first but now that you mention it..."

I trailed off and quickly ran towards Makoto's room. I knocked on the door and called his name. When I didn't get a response I rang the doorbell and knocked again. Still nothing.

"Calm down. He could be somewhere else in the school. Let's look around on the second floor." Naomi suggests.

I nod and calm down, taking a deep breath. How did Naomi always know what to say to calm me down? The two of us speed walked towards the stairs and quickly climbed them. When we reached the second floor I heard some voices from the library. I put my finger to my lips, silently telling Naomi to stay quiet and we quietly and slowly walked towards the door and peeked inside.

I saw Byakuya on his chair with a book in his hand like usual and Makoto standing in front of him.

"...leave. And take her with you." I heard Byakuya say to Makoto.

"Her? Is someone else in there?" Naomi whispered.

"It must be Toko." I say.

Sure enough, Toko walked up to the two boys and into our line of sight. Toko remained silent for a minute, twiddling her fingers.

"Hey, um...Byakuya?" She stammered.

I saw Byakuya roll his eyes and cross his arms over his chest, standing up and looking at her with a glare. He didn't answer her so Toko just continued to speak.

"Remember how you said, "Don't be a woman who dominates w-weak men. Be a woman dominated by a s-strong man"?" She said.

She was looking down at her feet, I noticed a faint blush? on her cheeks as she continued to twiddle her fingers.

"I never said that." Byakuya said sternly.

"W-Well, actually, I just thought it sounded like s-something you might say..." Toko stuttered.

"What the..." I muttered, trailing off.

Byakuya seemed surprised by her words before he quickly masked it with a harsh and disgusted glare.

"...Get out. And go take a bath. You smell." He said harshly.

Although his words sounded more like an order then a suggestion. And knowing Byakuya, it probably was an order. Toko looked up immediately and stammered in shock, her eyes blown wide. Byakuya's glare hardens and he scoffs.

"Don't make me say it again. Go now, before your stench latches onto the entire room." He ordered.

Toko looked away from him in what I assumed was embarrassment.

"O-Okay..." She stuttered out quietly.

I felt bad for her. Byakuya really thought that he could boss everyone around because of his social status and it pissed me off. Toko quietly began to walk towards the door with Makoto trailing behind her. This caused Naomi and I to quickly back away as quietly as possible. Once the came out Toko grabbed her hair and let out a loud groan.

"He really dug into us there. Maybe he's in a bad mood..." Makoto said.

Toko didn't respond and this made me feel even worse for her. Poor Toko, his words must've hurt her a lot. I decided to walk up to them.

"He's always in a bad mood." I say.

Makoto was surprised when he saw me and a silent Naomi following close behind. Toko didn't acknowledge our arrival and just muttered to herself.

"Byakuya... To go that far..."

She then dropped her hands from her hair and clasped them together close to her chest. A blush on her cheeks and a love sick grin on her face.

"He must be r-really concerned about me!" She said.

Our eyes widened.

"Huh?" We all said in unison.

"He told me t-to take a bath and everything. He must really care a-about my well-being!" She said, the grin never leaving her lips.

I stared in shock and that's when she turned to me and Naomi.

"Hey, N-Naomi...(Y-Y/n)...what do the two of you think?" She asked us.

"Think...about what?" Makoto cut in.

"I-I wasn't t-talking to you!" She exclaimed and pointed at Makoto.

She then turned to Naomi and I again and the love sick smile returned.

"Do you two think B-Byakuya and I would be...g-good together?" She asked.

I was even more shocked now. Why would she like him of all people?! He just insulted her and ordered her around like she was his servant! I don't know how anyone could ever like him in a romantic way.

"Um, well now...I'm not really sure." Naomi replied.

"That's t-true. There's really no w-way to know... But the distance between u-us doesn't change our love...! Because as soon as you realize your f-feelings, the love is born. That's h-how love works!" Toko exclaimed.

I blinked a couple times before sighing. "Toko...listen..."

I walked towards her and placed my hands on her shoulders.

"I personally don't think you should feel that way about Byakuya. He's not a nice person and he's incredibly rude and bossy." I say.

Toko slapped my hands off of her shoulders and glared at me.

"I-I see what you're doing...! You don't w-want me to go after Byakuya b-because y-you have a crush on h-him!" She shouted, pointing an accusing finger at me.

I stepped back in shock. "WHAT!? I DO NOT-"

I took a deep breath and spoke again.

"I do not like Byakuya as a friend, much less as a romantic partner. You can go after him all you want but I don't think it'll be good for you." I say calmly.

Toko stared at me before smiling again.

"There m-might come a day when y-you understand. Maybe. S-Someday. Well...bye."

And with that, Toko walked down the hall without another word. Suddenly Monokuma popped up in front of us.

"Ahh, young love!" He sighed.

"AHH!"

The three of us screamed in surprise and I jumped closer to Naomi.

"Who would've ever guessed she would go for someone like him? But eager passion can also be scary! Sometimes that leads people off in the wrong direction!" He said.

The bear then turned to me.

"And jealousy can lead to people doing unthinkable things!"

"Jealousy?! Shut up you dumb bear! You don't know anything! I'm not jealous. I don't even like Byakuya!" I shouted at him.

What I assumed to be a smirk fell onto the bear's face and he looked at me like he knew something I didn't. It was unsettling.

"Nyooohohohoho!"

With that laugh, he disappeared. Good. I hate that stupid bear.

"All of the sudden, I feel exhausted." Makoto said.

Naomi nodded. "So do I. I'm going to head back to my room for now." She said.

I decided I'd go to my room as well. I didn't have much to do again anyways. I would try finding a book in the library but Byakuya was in there and I try to interact with him as little as possible.

"That bear is so stupid." I mutter as I unlocked my door and stepped inside, shutting it behind me.

A/n: I got the idea for Mondo to call (Y/n) "sis" halfway through writing this. I'm gonna cry during the time I write the second trial 😭
