"I'm aware." he says.

"Right, and well,"

"Hailey are you really this bad at telling stories? Get it out already!"

"Ok, ok! I'm pregnant ok?"

Silence again.

"Umm... Trent? Hello?"

"I- wow-"

"Are you ok?"

"I'm trying really hard right now to be happy for you. I really am."

I smile.

"Congratulations." he says.

"I'm sorry about everything that I did."

"Ah, I guess you're with your person now."

He sounds broken, and I can tell he's trying really hard to act like he's pleased.

"Yeah, but I screwed up big time in the process."

"Yeah well, I guess it was worth it if Jadon really is your match."

I can't think of anything to say.

"Is that all?" he asks.

"How've you been?" I ask.

"Alright." he answers.

There's a pause, which seems to indicate he's anything other than alright.

"How about you?" he asks after a while.

"Ok. Pregnancy is scary though."

"You know I'm still here for you right? If you ever need anything?" he asks.

"Yeah."

It seems so underserved on my part.

"Everything going well between you and Jadon?"

"Yep." I say.

"Good to hear." he says.

His voice is quiet. Then again, it might just be a poor connection.

"Have you met anyone new?" I ask.

"Nope. I really liked you Hailey. I can't move on that fast."

"I'm sorry."

This is so heartbreaking.

"Keep in touch ok?" he asks, "We were friends before all this shit."

"I will."

"And tell me if you ever need anything." he says.

"Thank you."

"Stay safe."

"Bye Trent."

I hang up.

I can hear laughter in the kitchen.

"How'd he take it?" Jadon asks as I wander in.

"Fine. He was so sweet, he said he was happy for us and to keep in touch."

"But not too in touch." Jadon says.

I glare at him.

"Not the time." I say.

"Just saying..."
