Books, books, books. Piles of them. Your desk was practically flooded with books. For the last two weeks, you've been non-stop studying for the midterm exams. Last term, you didn't do so well, and you were determined to not let that happen again. The only catch?
You
Were
Exhausted.
These two weeks had really taken a toll on your mental health and sleep schedule. Staying up almost all night, barely getting three hours of sleep, then waking up and doing it all over again. You hadn't had a full fledged meal in a while, and you were starving. Sacrificing your health for school work. That..definitely isn't going to pan out well.
You looked down at your books, then to your notes, and then to your Chromebook. You checked the time. 11:47 pm. It was almost midnight and you were still studying. You heavily sighed, and finally stood up, stepping out of your room and walking to the kitchen. When you got to the kitchen, you turned on the light and jumped back, seeing your roommate, Xiao, standing there.
"Look who's finally out of their room."
He chuckled, taking a bite of his almond tofu.
"Hi, Xiao..what are you doing up this late?"
You questioned him, going into the fridge.
"I could be asking you the same question, Y/N."
He looked over at you, placing his fork down on his plate."
"Just..grabbing a midnight snack. That's all."
"I.."
He placed a hand on your shoulder.
"..highly doubt that. I know you haven't eaten much recently. And judging by the fact that you've barely left your room, I'd say.."
He dipped down a bit, now whispering in your ear.
"You're overworking yourself again, right Y/N?"
You gulped. You didn't want anyone to find out, but especially not your closest friend.
"..okay fine, maybe I am a little bit. But it's whatever! I'm fine!"
You closed the fridge, not even grabbing anything to eat. Xiao backed up and went back to his plate of food.
"I'm serious. You need to take give yourself a break. It's not good for your health."
You nervously chuckled and began walking back to your room.
"I'll be fine! Stop worrying about me, Xiao!"
------
When you arrived back at your room, you threw yourself onto your bed with a heavy sigh. You really were overworking yourself. But you couldn't stop now. Midterms were so close.
As you thought about your overwhelming stress and fear of failing, you eventually drifted off to sleep...

Hey, you made it to the end! Thank you so much for reading! A bit of backstory for this fic.
This was an idea I had based on my own experiences with studying for midterms and such. Much like y/n in the story, I had overworked myself with studying and ended up becoming extremely tired and stressed. So basically,,this is mostly a self indulgent fanfic I wrote because I'm a Xiao simp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just a reminder to take breaks! It's important to take care of yourself and not overwhelm or overwork yourself! Your health (both mental and physical) are very important and should be your #1 priority!
Again, thank you for reading! Stay tuned!
