"All first years this way!" The big man waved. I walked over to the man.
"I'm a first year." I kind of looked at the ground. The man looked like he should be intimidating but he seemed like a warm person. He gave me a big smile.
"What's yer name?" He chuckled slightly at my shyness.
"Y/N L/N." My voice was a little more confident as I looked at his face.
"Well miss L/N, I'm Rubeus Hagrid. But the kids here just call me Hagrid." He put his giant hand on my shoulder. "We should be heading over to the boats here shortly after I make sure all ye first years are gathered." He gave a big comforting grin and I nodded in return while smiling back.
After a lot of the crowd cleared out, we headed over to the boats that Hagrid mentioned. I sat down in a boat alone. Soon I see Draco being dragged by Blaise into my boat.
"Come on! Nothings wrong with her." I can hear Blaise while Draco seemed very annoyed. Blaise practically threw Draco into the boat before he took a seat himself.
"Have you heard? Harry Potter is supposed to be attending this year." Draco looked only at Blaise as the boats began to drift from the shore.
"No way!" I butted in. Draco glared at me annoyed before turning back to Blaise.
"He'll definitely be in Slytherin and I'm going to be his friend." Draco stuck his chest out proudly. I just rolled my eyes.
We arrived at the huge castle and unloaded the boats.
"Amazing!" My eyes grew at the beauty.
We walked up to an entrance with an older woman standing in front of the crowd. I see Draco go up towards the front of the crowd to introduce himself to a boy I believed was Harry Potter. After their short conversation, Draco seemed disappointed. He seemed more sad than mad about the situation. I knew Harry Potter had turned his offer of friendship down, just as he had done to me. He walked back over to Blaise and I.
"How'd it go?" Blaise raised an eyebrow.
"He's talking to the Weasleys." He mumbled. "I don't need his friendship anyway." He held his head high and Blaise chuckled lightly after sharing a look with me.
"Welcome to Hogwarts!" The woman spoke as we all directed our attention to her. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room." She paused and looked at the bundle of students. "The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours." She smiled and nodded before continuing. "The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting. I will return shortly when we are ready for you."
Chatter began to spread across the crowd. Casual conversations erupted between all first years before we were called into the Great Hall. As we walked in, there was a stool with an old hat resting on it. I felt too nervous to pay attention to what a man named Dumbledore was saying. We learned that the woman from earlier was Professor Mcgonagall. She began to call names and first years stepped up to the stool. The hat was placed on their head and came to life mumbling and then yelling one of the four houses.
"Hufflepuff!" I heard and jumped out of my nervous trance.
"Draco Malfoy!" Mcgonagall spoke clearly while looking at a scroll. Draco stepped up with a big smile on his face.
"Slytherin!" The hat didn't even touch his head before it spoke. He cheered with the whole Slytherin table. A few more names were called before Blaise. A little bit of mumbling was exchanged between the two.
"Slytherin!" The hat yelled and cheering was once again heard from the Slytherin table.
"Y/N L/N!" My stomach clenched with nervousness. I stepped up to the stool and the hat was placed on my head. I bit my lip waiting for a decision to be made.
"I see you're conflicted." The hat spoke. "You're friend's in Slytherin but you want something different. I know where you belong." I closed my eyes. "Ravenclaw!" I smiled as the Ravenclaw table cheered and I walked over to take a seat. This was going to be my new family. I looked around at all of the new faces and smiled.
"This year is going to be great." I assured myself with one solid nod.
A/N: Ok I know it's still kind of boring but I promise it'll get better. As always, I'm always taking suggestions.
