I shake my head rapidly upon hearing the last question. "No no no no no, he's not homophobic. He's nervous and umm...." I try to think of a lie, "he doesn't know how to make friends and we can't seem to get him to relax and be able to focus and he felt bad because he knew your arms must have been hurting from carrying the heavy light for so long and your legs were probably stiff from all the standing." I say.

"Really?" He questions. I nod;"mhm." "You should help him run lines actually, you know show him there's not ill will and all that. Help him relax." I say, hoping he'd agree. "You think that's the solution?" He asks again. I just nod. "Okay." He says before offering me a smile I return instantly.

When we walk back to the boys (who've been watching the entire interaction) Jake tells Devon that he noticed he seemed to need help with the lines in the script and offered to help him practice at lunch or after school. Devon instantly agreed and gave him his number before they walked off to continue talking.

"Aww our gay son is growing up" Junior coos. Oliver and I laugh before we all start talking about the costumes Oliver has made and the sets Junior has been working on.

Devon's pov

I was moments away from my first scene of the play and my nerves were getting to me. I was anxiously pacing and fiddling with my hands, exhaling shaking breathes while at it. "Hey Dev, I brought you something." I hear. I look up to see Jake taking powerful and wide strides towards me and my nerves both calmed down while picking up. Damn this white boy for making me feel this way.

He's carrying a bright red ribbon and a green thermos cup in his hand. "I made this tea because it warms up your vocals and supposedly relaxes you and I knew you'd be nervous though you have no reason to be." He beams at me and I can't help but do the same. I take the thermos from him and unscrew the cap to take a sip.

"This is...really good(camp rock this you?)." I say to him and he smiles in gratitude. I look down at the ribbon and he follows my eyes. I notice there's also a pretty white flower on it. "Oh! Umm this is...my lucky ribbon. I know it's cringy but I wear it for test days when I'm super anxious and my pills aren't enough. The red symbolizes good fortune, success, and happiness." He rambles to me shyly.

"And the flower?" I ask curiously. "It's a Calla Lily. It apparently symbolizes magnificence and beauty. My mom sewed it on there before she passed away, sewing was her third love after art and family." He informs me, offering his hand out. "Why do you have it?" I ask him yet another question. He looks down for second before meeting my eyes.

"I thought that you could maybe wear it on your wrist during your performance...it would look prettier on you and it won't distract others from your costume so it'd be something for just us two, to help you stay grounded or whatever so you don't like have a panic attack from worrying or something." He admits, a red hue on both of our cheeks.

"You don't have to wear it of course, it's just a suggestion so don't worry about feeling bad if you want nothing to do with it." He rushes out, his hand retracting from me. I hastily grab his hand. "No! I want it, thank you. A lot." I say sincerely, eyes locked on his.

"No problem. Hear let me wrap it on you." He says. I take my right hand off of his and leave it extending it forward. He delicately places the ribbon onto me before looping the ribbon and tying a knot slowly in it. When he finishes the ribbon is nicely placed on my wrist.

I smile at him again, in awe of how sweet & thoughtful he is for a teenage boy. "Well I'm going to get going, the curtain goes up in like one minute and I need to run up a bunch of stairs to get to the light up there." He tells me. I nod softly at him in understanding.

Jake turns away from me beginning to walk away from me before turning back around and kissing my cheek softly. He offers me one more smile before swiftly leaving my sight, I catch him blushing again and I know I'm doing the same. I quickly take a few small gulps from the thermos before setting it down to the side and listening for my cue. When I hear it I look down to my right wrist before smiling and walking on stage.

Last curtain call

ake's pov

Names of the cast and crew were being called as students stepped onto the stage and into the light I shined down on them and I can't help but smile at a certain ebony skinned boy with the brightest eyes around. Each student received claps from the people in the filled seats, row after row.

After the curtains closed and I faded the lights as the music slowed down I left my spot and rushed down a torturous amount of steps to get backstage where the rest of crew members and cast were all bundled up. Voices stacked up on each other like fallen domino's boomed around me but I wasn't fazed in the least.

I feel someone spin me around and before I can react soft lips that tasted of cake batter lip balm (Devon uses cake batter chapstick on his lower lip and spearmint on the bottom, it's canon cuz I said so) and spearmint were planted into mine. Devon's arms wrapped around my neck and I placed mine on his hips as I returned the awaited kiss I had been wishing to happen for weeks now.

When we pulled apart, his eyes were gleaming and his pearly whites were on display for me to see. He is so god damn pretty. (I'm sorry they keep saying that but Zackvin is really pretty to me) "I don't know how you bombard me with gifts and don't even kiss me properly afterwards. I have been waiting the whole performance to fix your mistake." He cheekily tells me.

I smile back at him; "oh really? You thought about me the whole time?" I reply. "No I thought about your mistake you made right before the play the entire time, but you were a close second." He says. "I'll take it" I respond before leaning in to kiss him again.
