Do They Ever Want

I was trying my best not to count down the days until my next birthday, but it seemed so inevitable.

One year turned into three hundred and one days as Christmas came around. I was alone in an apartment in Jacksonville. My entire family was in Tennessee and I was stuck with nothing but my setup and a global pandemic to keep it that way.

I decided that my best option was to stream. It was my favorite thing to do, but it was still so tiring. I felt the need to collapse into bed after around two hours of streaming and bid my chat goodbye.

Almost as soon as I had ended, my phone buzzed. I picked it up and read the notification.

Georgie
Now that you're done streaming, check your mail :]

Ellie
What did you do??

Georgie
Just check your mail

I shook my head at the message and put my phone into my pocket before throwing on a sweatshirt and starting the walk down to the mail room on the bottom floor of my building. It was a bit cold, but nothing bad. It was just enough to make my sweatshirt all the more cozy.

No one really seemed to be home when I got to the mail room. It was unusually void of people. I decided to ignore that fact and got my key out to unlock the mailbox. Inside, I found nothing but a couple letters. I quickly scanned them and found nothing from George Davidson.

I decided to check the pile of packages in the corner just in case. Lo and behold, there was a box addressed to Eloise Joyner from George Davidson.

I smiled and picked the box up to open it back in my apartment. I set the letters on top of the box and hugged my arms around it to keep it safe as I brought it back up the stairs. Luckily, it was light.

I balanced it on one leg and in one arm as I unlocked my door before unceremoniously delivering myself and the box to the couch. I set the letters onto the coffee table and took a moment to look at the scribbled handwriting on the box's labels. It was pretty, but messy, and slightly smudged from George dragging his hand over the ink as he wrote. I'd nearly forgotten he was left handed.

I smiled at the smudges on the label before getting up to grab scissors to cut through the tape that protected it's contents. I carefully cut the tape, unsure of what was inside, before pulling back the box's flaps to find tissue paper.

I gently took the tissue paper out to reveal a stuffed teddy bear nestled into the center of the box. I chuckled as I pulled the bear from the box. He was soft and his eyes were a bit uneven as they poked through dark fur.

Held between the two little arms of the bear was a gray envelope. It was tied with string around the bear's paws to stay in place. "Ellie" was written across the front of it in the same pretty yet messy handwriting from the box.

I un-looped the string from his paws and opened the gray envelope. The contents were written on what looked to be notebook paper with little stickers occasionally littering the page. I unfolded the paper and began to read.

Dear Ellie Joypeg,

I've decided to name him Blue as he is allegedly blue. I think it'd be funny if he's actually purple or green and we just continuously call him blue. You might come up with a better name, but Sapnap tried to name him Myron so just feel lucky that I didn't listen to him. In reality, Dream vetoed that one. I thought you'd just relate it to that Greek guy. Blue is better anyways because I came up with it. Dream also tried to veto Blue because it's "unoriginal," but I don't care.

In other news, Blue has more purpose than just sitting there and looking cuddly and cute. Although, I've found he's very good at that. I got Blue a couple days after your birthday and have been giving him plenty of hugs before his trip to America. He is delivering you those many hugs and also a lick from Cat when he got too interested and tried to hit Blue off of a counter. No Cats or Blues were harmed in this incident. I think Cat was just jealous that Blue gets to meet you and he doesn't. It's very understandable jealousy.
