Dany bit her lip. “Viserys, where are you? What did you find?” She took a few tentative steps into the darkness. She paused, giving her eyes time to adjust to the dim light. “Is a dragon’s egg?” The echo of her own voice seemed fainter now that she was inside the cave. Her heart beat wildly, not just from the fear of entering the murky space, but also from the excitement of finding a dragon’s egg. Could it be possible?

“Over here! It’s amazing!”

Dany followed the sound of her brother’s voice. The light from outside faded as she went further into the cavern. As the gloom grew darker and darker, Dany gently slid her hand along the side of the rough rock walls to guide herself deeper into the cave. “Where are you? I can’t see anything!” Suddenly she saw a faint glow from around the bend in the cave wall. Where was that light coming from so deep inside the cave?

As Dany turned the corner, she saw Viserys standing in front of a strange glowing object. It was like a floating hole, emitting a light as strong as sunshine. “What is that?” she whispered.

“Isn’t it amazing?” said her brother. “Watch this…” Viserys stuck his hand into the hole and it disappeared. Dany looked around to the back side of the floating hole but there was only empty air.

“Where did your hand go?” she asked.

“I’m not sure, but I think it is a portal, Dany,” said Viserys. “A portal to another land – or another dimension.”

“Take your hand out of there this instant!” Dany cried.

“No, I’m going to find out where this portal leads,” said Viserys. “And you’re coming with me.”

Before Dany could cry out in protest, her brother grabbed her hand and stepped into the light, pulling her with him. Dany closed her eyes against the brightness and held her breath. When she opened her eyes, she was standing in a large clearing. The sun was shining brightly and birds were trilling back and forth in the trees encircling the glade.

“Dany, look!” Viserys cried, pointing up to the sky.

Dany lifted her head and gasped. Flapping its giant wings against the clouds, a magnificent dragon was circling above their heads. It screeched and belched a billow of fire. “Oh, my! A dragon, a real live dragon!”
