Chapter 2.1 - Where the Light Can't Find You

Start from the beginning

"Is that your famous blueberry pie?" Frank asked me, his excitement coming through.

"I already told Mr. Hardy but since last night wasn't the best welcome, I figured I'd surprise you guys." I said. Frank's smile grew bigger at this.

"Did you know, Joe?" Mr. Hardy asked him.

"Yeah, she called last night to check in on me and Frank. She told me she was going to make one for us." Joe explained.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Frank scolded his brother.

"You were busy talking to Emma." Joe defended.

"I don't know about you guys but it's lunch time and I'm for skipping straight to dessert!" Mr. Hardy exclaimed, grabbing 5 forks from the drawer.

He offered everyone one, including me, which I happily accepted. Trudy grabbed the plates and then cleaned off the pie knife that we used two nights ago. We brought the pie to the table - my chair was still there from before.

We all happily dug into the pie and I had to laugh when all three guys physically melted in their seats after tasting the first bite.

"And that is why I make pies." I said to Trudy, chuckling at their reactions.

"You didn't have to do this for us, but I'm sure glad you did. Thank you." Frank said, his eyes bright and his smile big. My face flushed red and I nodded with a smile.

"I will find out your secret one day." Joe pointed at me.

"The only place it's located is in my head, so good luck." I laughed.

Within 10 minutes, the pie was gone.

"So much for lunch..." Mr. Hardy said, patting his stomach. We all chuckle at his actions.

"I wish Mom were here with us... for this." Joe wished. The room grew silent at this and Trudy offered him a comforting side hug.

"That reminds me, I have one more thing for you guys." I said, getting up and grabbing the menu from the kitchen island.

"Here." I handed the menu to the boys and they looked at it confused.

"Oh, new menu?" Trudy had recognized that it didn't look the same.

"Yeah, it was due for a redesign. But most importantly, we renamed one of the pies. It's in the 'Juliet specialties' section on the right side." I said.

"Coconut Cream... Purple Pie... Cherry Kiss... Chocolate Heaven... and-- and Mrs. Blueberry Pie..." Frank read out.

{"Hardy?... oh! You're Mrs. Blueberry's family!" I concluded.

"What?" Mr. Hardy asked.

"Sorry, I assumed you're related to Mrs. Laura Hardy. She would visit us every couple of months. Always got my famous blueberry pie to go. She always made the joke of calling herself 'Mrs. Blueberry' since that's all she would get from the bakery." I say with a soft smile. }

"Before it was just called 'Juliet's Famous Blueberry Pie.' But when I met you guys a few days ago, I remembered why I made pies in the first place. It was for others to enjoy. So after talking to my parents about it and getting their permission, I renamed it after the woman who enjoyed the pies most. Not only herself but her family too. And talking to Wilt and the others, your mom meant a lot to this town." I said, a sad smile playing on my lips.

"J-Juliet..." Mr. Hardy stuttered. His eyes watered and he sniffled.

"When did you do this?" Trudy asked me, looking over Frank's shoulder.
