When I finally reached, I slightly opened the door and peeked out.

No one.

Weird.

However, I didn't have time to investigate.

I exited the room and started walking down the hallway, being careful with every step I made.

I quietly walked along the wall, with no clue of where I'm going.

I let my instincts lead the way.

I walked, I walked and I walked.

A gleam of light suddenly appeared.

Not just any light.

Sunlight.

It felt like forever since I've seen it.

I felt my pace quicken, eyes glued on the small light.

I was getting closer.

Maybe, I might be able to escape.

I might be able to go back.

I might be able to stop the suffering.

My eyes glimmered with hope.

But then, I noticed there were two guards at the door.

I stopped in my tracks, hiding behind a pillar.

Those two were chatting away without a care in the world.

However, they were holding guns.

Worse, specially made Fatui guns.

My breath became ragged and unstable.

Will I be able to do it?

No.

I won't get two guards stop me.

I've come so far, why give up now?

I'm so close.

So close to being free.

I took a deep breath, then stared at the door. The outside was calling to me, waiting to embrace me.

I can do it.

I sprinted towards the door, a wave of adrenaline surging through me.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion.

The guards' shocked face when they see me, quickly aiming their guns at me.

But they missed.

I slammed the door open, running outside with all my might.

My eyes widened, filled with the natural green and bright sunlight.

A smiled subconsciously creeped up to my face.

I was free.

Free.

I laughed and ran.

I kept running.

I ran and ran.

Reminding myself that the further I ran.

The longer I could be free.

Then I bumped into someone.

I fell from the impact, wincing at the pain.

I felt two eyes glaring at me dangerously.

This familiar presence.

No...

No no no no...

My eyes widened, my lips quivered.

I was so close.

I was so close to freedom.

I slowly looked up.

Blond braided hair.

Golden eyes.

No...

He grabbed my hair and lifted me up into the air.

My agonizing scream filled the air.

My energy had started to leave me, leaving only pain left.

I felt tears prick the corner of my eyes.

Why?

Why?

Just why?

Do I not deserve freedom?

Do I not deserve happiness?

Why do I have to stay in this hellhole?

Wy doesn't the pain stop?

What did I do wrong?

Aether stared straight into my eyes. I shivered in fear, eyes turning glassy.

"You are not supposed to be here, aren't you, Xiao?"

I opened my mouth to try and speak, but only a whimper came out.

"ANSWER ME."

He grabbed my neck, squeezing it tightly.

I coughed and wheezed, trying to get air inside my lungs.

Tears started rolling down.

"I...I..." I sobbed.

Aether released me from his grip and let me fall to the floor.

I coughed harshly, filling my lungs back with air.

I gave out and my vision started to dim, black spots dancing around.

"I suppose I have to teach you a serious lesson."

I heard Aether say with a cold hard tone before passing out.
