10 years later...

April 6th. Probably the worst day Kurt would ever experience. He got a call that changed (and ruined) everything. Finn and Rachel visited Ohio with their child and never made it back. Who knew a trip to the grocery store could be deadly? Kurt rushed to Ohio, running into the house in tears. His dad gave him a hug and tried to calm him down. How could he though? His best friend ever and brother both died.

"Where's Hadley?"

"Sleeping."

"Okay." He said, tears still streaming down his face. He didn't know how he still wasn't dried out after all a whole plane ride of sobbing.

The whole funeral planning process was exhausting. Everyone was depressed and we still had to take care of Hadley. She's 3 so kept crying for her mom and dad. It was finally the day of the funeral though and Kurt was barely there. About halfway through, his breathing started to get all rapid. Burt looked over.

"Are you okay?" He nodded but ran out. After rushing outside, he tried taking deep breaths but all he was able to do was start hyperventilating. Barely conscious, he was turned by someone.

"It's okay. Breathe Kurt, breathe." His arms wrapped around the person. He had no clue who it was but needed this. Everything inside of him burst and he broke into tears, barely able to stay standing. He took a deep inhale after a second and realized who it was. Blaine. Still had the same scent after all these years.

"I can't, Blaine!" They backed up from the hug.

"I know it's hard."

"Hard? My best friend and brother died. It's not hard. It's impossible."

"I know. I'm really sorry." Kurt started taking more deep breaths. "You wanna go back in?"

"Thanks for coming. I didn't know you were here."

"No problem. My mom and Cooper are as well. I didn't think you'd wanna see me so I stayed hidden."

"I haven't seen you in about- 9 years?"

"Yeah." Both of them nodded.

"Let's go." Kurt said, leading the way back in. Kurt sat back down next to his dad.

"Are you okay now? I saw Blaine run after you."

"Yeah. He calmed me down."

"Good." Hadley walked over to Kurt and sat next to him, leaning against his side.

"I miss mommy and daddy." She whispered.

"Me too."

It was a day later and they were meeting with Finn and Rachel's lawyer. She knocked and Burt invited her in, bringing her to the living room to talk.

"So you're Kurt?" She asked. He nodded. "Okay." They went through Finn and Rachel's will and almost everything was covered. "Last thing is custody of Hadley." Kurt looked at Burt. "They want her to go to Kurt."

"Uhh— excuse me?" He asked, looking at her.

"They wrote in their will that they want you to have custody."

"Uhh..."

"If you don't feel comfortable then they can go to your parents." Kurt looked at Burt and Carole again.

"You should have custody." Burt said.

"I agree. We've had this already and it'll be a good experience."

"Plus it's a part of both of them."

"Do you have the financial ability to care for her?" The lawyer asked.

"Yeah. I have a ton of money saved up and my job pays so much I don't know what to do with it all. Thought I'd just end up donating it someday."

"Okay. Well, if you'd like, they want you to be her guardian. You'd go to court and get guardianship over her and they basically just make sure your financially able to and everything."

"Okay."

"So, you want to?" Kurt thought for a moment, needing time to think. Is this how he wanted his life to go? Is he able to take care of a child? He's 28 so it's not like he's getting any younger. This might be his only chance. But is he ready..?
