Moving Day

"I told you to pack the rest of your shit up, Luke!" Mom scorned, with a cigarette in her mouth.

It was five in the morning and the sunrise peaked from behind the maple trees. The titian shaded leaves danced as they fell from the dying branches. The crisp autumn breeze sneaked though the cracks of the walls, and gushed in as Mom opened the door. "I'll say it once and I won't say it again, Luke. Hurry the fuck up or I'm leaving you with your father." She sneered, lugging three packed brown boxes into the car.

My mom became pregnant with me in high-school, and married my dad at a young age. He lost his job months ago due to drug abuse, became a severe alcoholic, and abused my mom. He was never there for me; missed my birth, my soccer games, my middle-school graduation, everything. As much as I try to love my father, it's almost impossible. He enters the room with with flames of fury in his eyes, like we're the ones who fucked up. Luckily he's in rehab now, hopefully he'll get a taste of reality there. I'm starting to wonder why Mom married that delusional asshole anyway.

I packed up the rest of my clothes from my drawer, and placed the rest of the boxes in the trunk. "You're driving, hotshot!" Mom yelled from the passenger seat, guzzling half a bottle of Tequila in her fucking ugly velvet hot-pink sweatsuit. Her greasy bistered and fake blonde hair was stinking up the whole ass car, I'm surprised there wasn't a fly kingdom hunting for food in that rats nest. Moms orange spray tanned hand slaps me across the face, just as I sit down. "Turn on the fucking engine Luke what the hell are you waiting for, the car to grow legs and take us to to paradise? We need to get out of this shithole. Now." She said impatiently.

I was born and raised here in Virginia, but I will say I won't miss the druggies lingering all over town. Let alone my run-down apartment complex. Hopefully California will give me a fresh start, and Elsher Academy.
