Chapter 2

The next morning I got dressed and headed down stairs to eat some breakfast. When I walked into the kitchen I saw Aunt Jen cooking breakfast. "Morning Jade! Want some eggs and bacon?" She smiled. "Sure. Can you scramble my eggs?" "Sure." She handed me my plate as I ate Jen asked me "What are you going to do while I'm at work today?" I swallowed a bite of eggs and then replied "I don't know. I figured I would just explore the neighbor hood." "Oh! There's a nice park about half a mile away! Maybe you could go there!" "That sounds good!"

When aunt Jen left for work I put my dishes in the sink and set out for that park she was talking about. when I started my walk I put my headphones in and looked down to put on some music. The next thing I know I'm on the ground with someone hovering over me. "Oh my gosh! Jade, are you ok?" Who knows my name here?! I look up and see no other person but Shawn. He was sweaty. He must have been out on a run. "Yeah I'm ok." Shawn helped me to my feet. "Here, let me make it up to you! I'll go home and shower and then I'll take you to my favorite place to get ice cream. Sound good?" He asked. I couldn't find my words for some reason, so I just nodded. He smiled which made me blush. What is he doing to me?! I don't even know him!

He led me back to his house. The whole way we where in an awkward silence. When we got to his house he led me to his room. "Wait here. I'll be 20 minutes tops." He smiled then left. I just started to play on my phone and about 15 minutes later a little girl walked in. "Hi! I'm Aaliyah! Are you that girl that Shawn can't shut about?! Your name is Jade right? Yesterday Shawn came home with a goofy smile on his face and then he couldn't shut up-" "That's enough Aaliyah!" We both looked up to see a blushing Shawn. Aaliyah just smiled and skipped out of the room.

"Sorry about her. Siblings: You can't live with them, but you can't live without them. You know." "Actually I don't. I'm an only child." I shrugged. Shawn looked down for a second then said "You ready to go?" I nodded and we set out again. We walked out of his house and Shawn led me to the passenger side of a car and opened the door for me. "Why what a gentlemen!" He chuckled and made his way to the driver's side.

We drove for about 5 minutes and then we pulled up to this quaint little ice cream shop. "Here we are!" he said happily. He looked like a kid in a candy shop and it was kind of adorable. "Wait here!" He got out and then ran around to open my door. "You're gonna love this place! They have all kinds of ice cream. Anything you want they probably have. This makes me excited and we walked into the shop. I ended up getting cotton candy ice cream while Shawn got chocolate.

"So, what brings you to live with your aunt, Jade?" Shawn asked as he took a bite of ice cream. "Well, my aunt hadn't seen me in a while and we missed each other. She offered for me to stay for the summer and voi la! Here I am." I indicated to my surroundings. "You're staying the whole summer?" Shawn asked happily. "Yes, why do you ask Mr.___?" "Mendes. Mr. Shawn Mendes." he said. "And no reason you just seem cool." He said with a faint blush on his cheeks. When we finished our ice cream we walked around and window shopped and just learned more about each other. "Jade let me see your phone." "Why?" "Just let me see it." I handed him my phone and he said to smile and we took a picture. "There that can my contact picture." "You're sneaky. You know that?!" He just shrugged. Then we did the same thing for his phone.

"Now we can hang out when you're bored." Shawn said. "And who said I would want to see you  again?" I teased. "A hunch." He said. I rolled my eyes and then he took me home. "Text me ok?" "We'll see" I smirked and walked inside aunt Jen's house.

"Who  was that?" Aunt Jen asked when I walked in the door. "Was it Shawn? I knew you liked him! I called it!" She cheered happily. "Whoa, Aunt Jen. Calm down. He just got me ice cream because he accidentally knocked me down when he was on his run. Its nothing." She just said "Mhm." and walked off with a knowing smile.

I'm never going to get anything past her. I went up to my room and plopped on my bed. I couldn't help but smile. I've known this kid less than a day, but why does he get to me like I've known him for years. Maybe Aunt Jen is right.
