It was 9:40pm, and I was on my last shift at Nightingale Hospital. I was checking up on one of my patients when the lights went off. "How spooky! I'll turn them back on-" but then she grabbed my arm and told me to close my eyes. I asked why, and she said, "If you don't, they'll get stolen by Vickie..." I hesitated, but asked, "Who's Vickie?" Eyes still closed. "She died here a few years back. Got in a big car accident. She was the only survivor. Her parents died, traumatizing the poor child. Even worse, she went blind, then insane. She started to attack the nurses. Gouging their eyes out, for all she wanted was to see again. And if she couldn't see, then no one around her should."
I was shocked. I had never known that happened. "What did they do to her?" I asked, reluctantly. The patient hesitated, but continued. "They pulled her life support. Held her down until they knew she died. It was quite tragic, but they couldn't allow her to harm anyone else. Nobody but the nurses knew about this, except for us patients, who heard from a distance: 'Code Blue, Code Blue' I wasn't here, but my mother was-" Suddenly, the lights turned back on, and she let go of my arm. "She won't hurt patients like myself, but you...you're a nurse. She'll kill you." She said as she relaxed in her bed. She turned her head, and said silently, "If the lights ever go out...just close your eyes. Don't open them no matter what-" The lights went out again. "Oh no...she's pissed..." The patient said, shaking. I quickly closed my eyes and tried to find a switch. Suddenly, something grabbed my leg.
I froze. "VICKIE!! IT'S VICKIE!! DON'T OPEN YOU-" There was a loud crash, and the lights came back on. I looked behind me...and the patient was gone. I stood there, shocked. There was no trace of anybody ever being there. I looked around, trying to find her, but no such luck. I went to leave the room, to search further, when the door slammed in my face. The light started to flicker furiously. I could hear soft humming coming from under the patient's bed . I hesitated, but looked under. There was a little girl, laying there, singing to herself. "Please. . .I just want my mama and papa . . ." She said softly, starting to sob quietly. "Nobody loves me anymore. . .they just let me die. . .they wouldn't even fix my eyes. . ." I froze. "Is- Is your name Vickie?" I said, starting to back away from the bed. The lights turned off once more, but this time, the room got cold. I felt a cold breath on my neck, and quickly closed my eyes. "Yes, but why would you care? You killed me." She said as she put her hands on my eye sockets. I started to quiver as her tiny nails started to puncture my eyes. "Oh please, may you open your eyes? Please? I want to see your pretty face!"
Right when she said that, she jerked my eyes open by force, and I stared right into her dark, empty eyes sockets. I was chilled to the bone as she stuck her fingers into my eye and squeezed. I screamed, trying to get away, but there was no use. She ripped them out of socket, and collapsed to the ground, unable to move, screaming. She giggled as stomped my head into the ground. "Oh thank you dear one~ Your eyes are all I needed~" She patted me on my head, and the world went black.
Now I'm in my room.
Unable to move.
Unable to speak.
I've gone insane.
