A Dream of You

Why in my sleep do I see your lips on her?

A dream of your face haunts my vulnerable, unconscious state.

You manipulate my obliging self,

So beautiful and precious yet you scare me half to death.

I wake, pouring sweat before the sun can whisk the moon astray.

A relentless heart pounds erratic beats,

It screams an eerie lullaby.

"It is no good to love," my heart cries,

But the slices on my wrists whisper,

"Quiet, tranquility comes with a price."

And away I run to my keel.

The dull, silver blade shines more brightly in the moonlight.

But, "No," I scream as I run to my love.

To see him in my arms will prove the dream faulty.

But his eyes, they sparkle something misconstrue,

They speak, "There is no love for you,"

and I quarrel in the mist of my thoughts.

A heart so filled with red,

It bleeds until I frantically grab at his hand.

'Hold me,' I silently beg but he stutters and pulls away.

"A sickness I am, you cannot touch me."

"Contagious you are, but I do not care."

Then there we go,

Down a hall where words are never spoken.

I ponder over the thoughts that go through your mind,

I study the gaze that was unsure and unsteady.

Oh, but my heart sinks as a smile pulls on your lips,

It's her your eyes have found.

You consciously disappear behind me;

My heart races as I wonder.

A sly smile,

A filthy secret.

She knows she had kissed your lips,

She knows it hurt as I watched the two of you, hand in hand.

Heart to heart.

Then you're gone as I walk away too quickly.

"Where is this going?" You ask.

A nervous laugh bubbles within me,

How could I admit this,

That I envy that your lips were once on her?

So I pull out my theatre,

A smile so wide it hurts my cheeks.

"I had thought about it more than long enough,

I love you,

No worries."

and from there we went our ways.

Why in my sleep do I see your lips on her?

A dream of your face haunts my vulnerable, unconscious state.

I over analyze you,

So beautiful and precious yet you scare me half to death.

I crawl into bed, tears staining my cheeks.

A relentless heart pounds erratic beats,

It screams an eerie lullaby.

"Rest, your truth will come with time," my heart whispers.

But the slices on my wrist whisper,

"Hurry, tranquility will not wait for you."

And away I run to my keel.

The dull, silver blade shines more brightly in the moonlight.

"Yes," I scream as crimson stains my carpet.

To see him in my arms is all I crave,

To disprove A Dream of You.

This is the un-edited version but hey, isn't that how poetry is supposed to be? Raw and touching?

The cover is a picture from www.fineartamerica.com that I edited on iPiccy.com. If you want to find the picture, I typed in Google's search "woman sleeping art". Caution; they're is a lot of nudity that I wasn't even prepared for. Although my eyes aren't virgins so I wasn't too appalled. I am a female myself, anyway.

I hope you enjoyed it.
